Copyright question: paraphrasing?

I know for a fact that the move list of all chess games are public domain. I'm pretty sure that annotations, on the other hand, are subject to copyright. Supposing that I read some chess book and found an intructive game analyis, is it okay for me to:

A) Annotate the moves of the game in my own words in order to recommunicate what I learned?

B) Write a paragraph or article that summarizes the ideas of the annotations and what I learned from the game (without including the original annotations, of course), and include the move list for reference?

I'm thinking of writing an article or two just to help myself organize my thoughts after reading a book, and felt that I might as well share those thoughts to benefit others as well.

I would imagine that as long as you put it into your own words and cite the sources used it would be okay. Typically you can't take someone elses work and just reword it slightly and put it back out there without referencing their work.

Those suggestions make sense. Maybe I'll even try closing the book, walking away/doing something else, then coming back later to annotate the game in my own words.
