"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good."
Psalm 14:1

If the Christian god was almighty, why send Jesus down to earth to forgive our sins that he has to judge on anyway? Why send down your own son to be tortured and executed?
But yes, there is a statistically proven correlation between atheism and education/IQ. I don't think that this is especially surprising...

Because there has to be a penalty for sin. Jesus took the punishment so we don't have to.
Chess is a thinking game. The more you think the more you lose your childhood connection to the sacred.
God can't get a cheap thrill out of his creation unless they are capable of sinning...
But if they do sin they must be tortured to death for the rest of eternity for not choosing to obey him of their own "free will".
Now I get it... God's response in no way resembles that of a thwarted toddler.
Because there has to be a penalty for sin. Jesus took the punishment so we don't have to.
I think this is just the right moment to quit this topic. It hurts me to see that people turn off their brain.

But, every Christian I know believes that very few people (including other Christians) are true believers. So, Jesus' "punishment" was useless. Just about everybody is going to hell.
Pity religions are also built of thinking, like chess and atheism. Everybody rowing the same boat under different names.

Very few, except for hundreds of millions of people through history.
It certainly wasn't useless for me. If it is for you, that's your own decision.

Well, if hundreds of millions of people are saved, then that sounds like small consolation to the 7 billion people on earth plus those who lived before us. Your god is truly merciful. My decision is to trust that YOU are wrong, and that a fair and just god would have a different plan.

A fair and just God can't allow sin to go unpunished. Because God is merciful, He made a way of salvation, and gave us the Bible to tell us about it. What more could you want from Him? If people choose to reject God's way of salvation, they are to blame, not God.
I don't want to get into a long debate about this, I've not got time. If anyone has questions about Christian teaching, I'm always willing to answer them. But I don't think there's much profit to continuing this discussion, neither of us is going to convince the other. We'll all know who's right eventually.

These damn PEOPLE with their normal behavior and urges!!! They really have it coming by golly!!!
You're right, he sounds merciful.
So a creature is created that is capable of sin and then the creator is shocked and outraged when they sin, which is all totally their fault. Compelling stuff.
God could have created us incapable of sinning, and then we'd have been about as enjoyable as so many robots. God chose to give us a free will. We exercised that free will and chose to sin.
