Crossed 1600 Blitz !!!!!

I find this an unbelievable feeling. I know to those who have higher elo and to whom chess comes more naturally this is worth nothing. However I had to struggle to pick up chess. No real teachers never read a chess book (tried one but didn't get beyond the first chapter). I started and then got stuck in the 800s for a long while. Then gradually started improving. Getting into 3 figure elo was a big deal, then 1200, 1500 and then for a while I was stuck in 1500s.

Went down and then was stuck yo-yo ing between 1450 and 1300s for a while. Finally put together a run and now I crossed 1600.

I know to most of you reading this means nothing. However well, I felt great about crossing 1600 finally, and felt like sharing with the chess.com community of chess.

Nice! I was stuck yo yoing as well between 1300s and 1450, but recently broke through into the mid 1600s

Incredible. It’s still going to take me a LONG time to get anywhere close to 1200! Great job!

Good for you!

Great, congratulations! I am the most horrible blitz player in the world, so I considered 1600 as a huge rating!

Okay, we are both horrible blitz players. 😀 The problem is that I am not doing anythingto improvein blitz, as I focus on Daily chess.

Blitz improves your daily chess, plus you almost certain you playing against a person not a computer unlike daily chess.

Congrats! 1600 blitz is a serious rating, considering that after almost a year of intensive playing and studying I'm still about 150 points short. Hopefully I'll follow you within a few months/half a year. :-)

Congrats.

When I was new, I thought 1300 might be impossible for me, so it was exciting to reach it. Anyone can have personally significant milestones. Good job happy.png

Remember your true rating is the average rating of the opponent you beat, you can get a high rating by beating up on lower players but what’s the point.

So if I beat a beginner my "true" rating is now at a beginner level? sad.png

lol

Big Congratulations!

Someone doesn’t understand the meaning of average.
Farm_Hand

Maybe you mean "opponents you beat" (plural) not "opponent you beat" (singular)

But even so, there's a better way to find your "true rating"

Various ways have been devised by mathematicians.

One of them is called the Elo rating... but some people don't understand math so they dream up simplistic ways like some sort of average of something or other.

heh.

Errrrr no I mean as I said, your true rating is based on the AVERAGE opponent you beat it read correctly. Example my blitz rating is 2023 but the average rating of opponent I have beat to get there is 1942 so that is my true rating. Now I have my table set at only accepting opponents within 25 points, so to be a true 2000+ player the average opponent rating I beat will need to increase to 2000+
to be considered true.
I mean you can get to 2000+ by beat 1700 but it would be false wouldn’t it?

Some (if not all) of the people here are higher rated in blitz than me. 1300 seems like an impossible number to reach for me : I am only 1000+. How do you’ll do it? Well, I have only been playing blitz for almost 2 months now, and I’m wondering if I have any hope. Maybe I will just stick with rapid (1200+).
