What are se openings that have always had a bit of a cult following ?

Blackmar Diemer Gambit

Smith Morra Gambit

The the Latvian Gambit still have a cult following?

When I played the Latvian, I did not have to join a cult.

There are too many to recall !  

I'm trying to start a 1...Nc6 cult.  You will win all your games with black, but you have to send me all your money.

I thought cult opening signified an "inferior" opening with fierce devotees.  We have seen KG at top levels recently.

The Pirc!?  It has serious merit, but is goofy enough to attract the weirdos (myself included). : )

@11 You can use that to say any opening isn't inferior. Sometimes they are played because they think the opponent won't be well prepared, not just because it's the most theoretically challenging.

Lol,  i've read some silly threads but this  lol, just made me laugh.

I agree with Graywacke, I have a fetish with the Pirc. I don't play her (yes, her) nowadays, I think she needs a lot of time to be devoted, but I'm sure I'll be back with her any day.

People who play the Center Counter now damand that it be called "the Scandinavian". It's still a sucky gimmick opening that tries to catch White off guard.

The Scandinavian is quite a serious opening, very playable.
