Cutoff Rating When No Longer Patzer ?

Sort:
FrenchTutor

I did not use the word "master" a single time in my above post.  I have no idea what guided you to think that I equate master with pro.  Mastery of the endgame is proof that one is no longer a patzer, not that one is a professional player.  I consider IM/GM to be professional and everything under that to be amateur.  On top of that, what does being unrated have to do with anything?

You quoted me so you should know what I am talking about. I am referring to people in previous post who say that you are either a master or a patzer. And I know several players who are rated 1200 or below who can play good chess. I know blitz players with 900 rating who have played very strong openings, perfectly theoretical.

If you quote me and call my analogy stupid, make sure you know what Im talking about.

FrenchTutor

Playing theoretical openings is purely memorization (or they might have been cheating with an opening book...) and is not a measure of anything.  And please post a game from someone below 1200 who plays good chess.

I will post. Where though? Personal message or forum?

FrenchTutor

Either is fine.

Coffe house player describe a style more than a level. You might say that Andersen was a coffe-house player.

Are you nuts he played simply not to lose, even as white.  He was very careful and pacified positions, and went for either the Catalan or English usually as white (starting with 1.Nf3 via transposition).

Anderssen played simply not to lose?  Just like in this game:

Okey, FrenchTutor, I can´t find some good games OTB right now, but I would say that this game is decent. At least it´s not living up to your three move theory... http://www.chess.com/livechess/game?id=586033418

FrenchTutor

if you count pawns then it is :P I guess we just have a very different opinion on what good chess is.  Agree to disagree.

Great. Btw, I have had this game analyzed by 2000 strong computer. There are 0 blunders in it (remember, 2000 level) and I only made one "major" mistake.

I don't know what is the topic at hand, but I agree this game is decent, rating-wise.

Wouldn't perhaps a "grandpatzer" be WORSE than a "patzer????"

language and all that

great shot Doctor. Never thought of it that way !

DrCheckevertim

Yeah I could see it either way, but my initial impression at seeing the word was "someone who is great at being crappy."

Ziggyblitz

As stated... It is all relative, but to my mind 2000 is a seriously strong player. Kasparov only wants players less than 2000 for his simuls.

texasyankee

Anyone I can beat is a patzer.  To anyone who beats me, I'm a patzer.  After the world championships,  there will only be one non patzer in the world.
