Today's puzzle was tough, requiring a mate in 5. I think you are mistaken about there being an easy mate.

Are you saying you think you found a faster solution to the puzzle?
This is incorrect. The solutions are checked with a computer. When calculating a solution, assume the opponent sees all the threats and will try to defend against them.
Here is an example of a wrong solution:
This is not the solution because black would try his best to avoid mate, so black would not capture with the pawn.
