If Deep Fritz and Deep Blue were to play each other, how would there ever be a winner? Would every game end up a draw?

I thought deep blue was rated at least below 3000 and deep fritz 11 at least slightly above, if I'm not mistaken that would mean deep fritz would win more.

I would assume all games would draw because blue has slightly deeper analysis capabilties although fritz has a stronger decision making process.. it means that neither side would have a tactical chance and, of course, neither engine has any technology that helps them prepare for advantageous endgames....

fritz in theory would win more than lose but i'd assume well over a 90% draw rate.

lol @ last person's post. both engines have a SUPERB endgame knowledgebase. however, i would say deep blue would win. deeper calculations not to mention IBM would have a GM helping the engine ;]

I can't comment on the specific engines here, but just for fun I run some engine matches on my own very average computer with usually between Fritz10 and the free version of Rybka (wich still wins maybe 70% of the decided games) and there are much fewer draws than you see in GM play these days, at least at the top levels.  Hard to say if the same would hold true for more powerful engines running on better computers, but you don't get draws because the engines don't want to waste energy playing out a theoretical position or only need the half point to assure their spot.

It would be interesting to see a match like this. Both engines thinking thousands moves ahead. I think the game would be decided well in the opening not in the middle or endgame.

No engine can look even close to a thousand moves ahead since the number of possible variations grow exponentially, deep blue work around 24 ply at best in a normal timed game from what I heard and that's 'only' 12 moves ahead.

I stand corrected, but 12 moves is still allot
