Depressed over Carlsen's performance

Sort:

His performance at Tromso was literally heartbreaking. I watched him build a winning position against Naiditch so I stopped watching. I came back and saw the dreadful result of 0-1 and was crying all day. But I kept my faith in Carlsen and his words that he would bounce back, and he did! Still, he played awkwardly and risky in the opening which is uncharacteristic of him. I figured he was just trying new ideas. I hoped for Carlsen to get his rating back by winning the next game and surpassing it in round 10, but Carlsen was crushed by an opponent 200 elo weaker. That day I decided that my life cannot continue until Carlsen redeems himself and wows the chess world with a ridiculous performance. I am so sad I cannot even cry anymore....

Ode to Carl Magnusen:

ten thousand Swedes / ran through the weeds / chased by one Norwegian

I'm no fan of Carlsen, and I'll be rooting for Anand in this year's WCC match... but...

Magnus is just loosening up and getting it out of his system before the big match. Also, in a tournament that only counts for rating purposes... Norway had no realistic chance of winning the gold medal, after all... he's not likely to play into topical lines that would require him to reveal his opening prep vs Anand.

Relax.

So suspended animation is in the cards?

He slipped and fell / his rating went to hell / and now his critics are legion.

...

... did you ever see our Chess haiku thread?

How anybody can be depressed over how some total stranger did in some far off tournament for some other country no less is beyond my comprehension and undesrtanding.

To be honest, my heart dropped when I clicked live games and saw 0-1. I thought it was a mistake at first because some other results weren't being properly relayed.

DO NOT post fake youtube links on this forum. The youtu.be domain (as opposed to the REAL youtube.com domain) is routinely used to infect unsuspecting users' computers with viruses.

Either post a REAL youtube.com link, or don't post.

I don't know whether THAT link is clean or not. Since I recognized it, I didn't click on it. Naturally not.

As an IT professional, I DO know that the youtu.be domain has been used many times as a vector for the spread of viruses. Google 'youtu.be virus' and check the "scam alert" link, if you think that I'm making this up.

Doesn't youtube.com offer links to their own domain?

The trolling has really gone downhill. I expect more out of trolls than this. You  have years of material to review and THIS is the best you could come up with?

smh typical fascist censor.  nothing wrong with the link, right from youtube. you are soo jealous.

mnhsr, I'm sorry that I snapped at you. Very likely you posted that link in good faith. Many... even most... of the youtu.be links are harmless videos.

That doesn't change the fact that YouTube made a very serious mistake in introducing "URL shortener" links without first setting up the proper security for that new domain; nor does it offer any consolation to the people who have been infected with viruses after hackers jumped on that particular vulnerability.

If you want to post a video, you can get the proper domain link by copying the contents of your web-browser's address bar, rather than using the "shortener" link.
