Did Nelson get nerfed or is he overrated?

I beat Nelson in my first try, after months of reading comments by people ranting about how it takes them days to just devise a strategy to do anything to that bot. Some others claimed that they check under their bed because Nelson gave them nightmares. I just recently returned to chess after 3 years; additionally, I played chess for the first time 4 years ago, quite inconsistently if I may add. Upon returning, I have solely been playing against bots; they have all been easy, and Nelson is no different. I know no formal chess openers; I play purely based on logic. I am a complete amateur. Nelson must have gotten nerfed, right?

I do recommend you practice the endgame more: queen vs lone king.

It's an extremely common endgame and you want to master the technique a lot better.

Thanks, I appreciate it, and you're right. A lot of the moves in that repetition I provided practically consist of an already decided endgame. I'm going to practice that much more.

Yes they definitely nerfed Nelson in one of the last few updates.  Also I think they Nerfed Mateo.  I used to constantly play Nelson in the past and you had to beat him by capitalizing on the immense amount of development gained opposite any player who brings the queen out early.  Most of my wins came towards the endgame with original Nelson.  Now more often than not he blunders off the bat, or during the middlegame.  Fun factoid, I’m pretty sure they named this bot after Nelson Mandela, being that he’s a bot from South Africa.

Honestly is it just me or does everyone try to get a queen trade early with Nelson?
