do Americans really see Bobby as one of the greatest players

Agreed.  Americans are delusional.  Those people outside the US...

That's EXTREMELY offensive to Americans. I'm not defending Booby Fischer, but that is something that has nothing to do with chess, or Booby Fischer, or anything relevant - it's just in very poor taste.

Don't let it bother you. The guy is talking out of his ass.

Most famous chess players live OUTSIDE the US and most of them regard Fischer as one of the greatest chess players of all time.

Well, since everyone is using food to describe people (nuts, bananas), I'd say the people you are talking about are crackers.Laughing

No mortal human being can ever acheive the laurel of the"Greatest at anything. If so many of you people are prejudiced against Americans  is your opinion, but to saY THAT  b.f. WAS NOT ONE OF THE greatest players then ytou may as say the same  about Steinitz, Lasker, Capablanca, and many others. certainly its always difficult  to judge players  from one era to another, however, this is a chess site, lets not get political and  make fools of yourselves by making stupid statements simply to get attention drawn to yourselves.

Only when it's applied to people like this:

They also don't like to be called trailer trash.

What I see in this thread is a lot of petulant and ignorance-based  resentment from some people regarding Fischer.

Michael Tal had an amazing winning streak on his way to the laurel crown so sad that both these greats only ever wore it once and that not down to chess reasons although an ill tal did replay botvinnik and lost if these two had had good health and mental health i think chess would have gained so much the russian school of chess although excellent failed to thrill me until kasparov along gap with both of these players still alive in that period 70-90

Yeah, you know. Some losers have to take away from others to make themselves feel better.

Chess should be like an axe fight... the winner gets to live! The loser has to choke to death on his checkmated King. Then you'd see some really meaningful chess played. Bobby Fischer was good in his day but when a pocket instrument can be programmed to beat Grand Masters well maybe chess is a game to play for fun not for bragging rights worldwide. Personally I think Kasparov was the greatest champion up until today. Carlsen is freaking BORING! Fischer brought a lot of new thinking into chess with some pretty significant brillancies at a VERY young age!

Yep, Bobby Fischer is the greatest player.

MOST Americans can't see. And those that can, can't remember!

Bobby Fischer was like the master of the past, he work on his opening preparation, did not have a team of grandmasters to help him, in the adjournments Fischer did all his analysis, not like the loser Botvinnik who needed Geller and a team of GMs to save his ass in a complicated endgame against Bobby. Fischer did his homework and research in the opening because of his hard work he became the greatest player. Every player after Fischer had trainers to guide them to the world champion, Karpov, Kasparov and Carlsen.  True genius is a player who can rise to greatness without the help of others and Fischer was the greatest because he had no trainer to guide him to the world champion; he was like Morphy, Steinitz, Lasker,Capablanca and Alekhine; they reach to the top through their genius and no help from trainers.
