do computers accurately give ratings??

how many of us have used computer technology how to play chess games and tactics and strategies in search of our chess rates?

how many of us use chat software to find out are true strength and weaknesses?

how many of us believe that the software is completely and truly accurate?

I ask because I am a USEF member, I have a chess rating of 1766. I recently purchased hodini by chess king. I found the software to be extremely valuable! there was a lot of teaching tools in there that help me out greatly and I'm a strong rated player. I played all the puzzles the quest games and other challenges it gives, plus I have the check came opening what you should know, and I will be purchasing the other 5 tactics/ strategy and games Exedra... I am very impressed with the software and the knowledge that is inside. you can even choose a chess rating you can play against, so far I have beaten an 1800 rated opponent... which means my game should be improving over the board. but what I don't understand is, if my OTBwith the United States Chess Federation is 1766, and my computer rating is over 1800, why do I get beat by other players or rated 1300 1400? it's kind of a double question really. are other opponents actually using chess software to cheat in their games? or is the chess software off? please discuss your experiences in using these type of teaching tools and your honest opinion in the reliability of the software worthiness... and if you want also comment on possible cheaters to beat someone of my strength or your strength if they are a weaker opponent...

Ratings cannot be compared from one pool/system to another.  Not meaningfully anyway.  They are not designed to be absolute ratings, only relative to others in the same group.
