Do people from India tend to be better at Chess?

I am sorry, but I must disagree with this claim. As I said in the OP, not everyone who is good at Chess is from India, and not everyone from India is good at Chess. I would appreciate it greatly if you expanded upon your opinion.

It’s just that I feel like the players with India flag are very tenacious, it’s just an observation.

On a separate note, what does my rating have to do with this post?

I just want to start off by saying that I don't wish to offend anybody. Not you. Not any Indians. Not anybody.

You're a relatively low rated player, or at least it appears that way to me. You're certainly not high rated, I hope you'd accept. So when you say that you personally face a high number of Indian players, and then you use this fact to question whether or not Indian players maybe skew towards being higher rated... The logic just appears a little flawed to me, is all.

I could say the same to you. 1800 isn't all that high.

But the point is, they're playing people their rating range, so that's not really relevant.

I actually would agree with that. I play cricket against a few teams that have a large percentage of players with an Indian background. I would agree that those teams/players do tend to have a certain enthusiastic, high energy quality about them.

I am not a good chess player. I have never, and probably will never, claim to be. To use your own words though, that's not really relevant.

I was saying the first part to demonstrate how unnecessary it is to say.

Which part of what I said was unnecessary?

The rating part. Read what I wrote before.

Country has no bearing on skill. India has more people, this is probably why it seems like this.

It's entirely relevant. The OP is questioning whether or not Indian players are likely to be stronger than players from other countries. He questions this, because he faces a very high percentage of Indian players. Therefore, if the OP was a high rated player, his claim would make sense. If he was low rated, his claim was would appear somewhat contradictory. Would you not agree? I feel that his rating is very relevant to his post.

AussieMatey

Completely untrue BrickO. The deep roots in India only go an average of 4.76 feet into the ground, while other countries can descend as low as 12.48 feet.

You are saying...

That 1370 is a low rating (which I agree with,) but that many people he encounters online are from India.

So, that would mean that a ton of players from India are low-rated, which goes against saying they're strong. That's what you mean?

Game_of_Pawns

Yes. That's what I'm saying.

I absolutely accept that I am not very good at Chess.  I was not using the fact that I play many Indian players to answer the original question—It was just a side note.  Once again, sorry for any confusion.    I suppose that you are right that my rating is relevant.

On an entirely different note, this is what I feel a forum should be like.  Respectful.  Calm.  It’s perfectly fine for people to have different opinions and share them—even contradictory opinions.  In fact, I enjoy it.  But when things get out of hand, with insults and verbal abuse, the forums become toxic places.  so thank you for your opinion, @AussieRookie, @Game_of_Pawns, JackRoach, and anyone I didn’t mention.

Yep. I too am glad this thread isn't completely run by kids.

Even if I am one.

You haven't played an Indian for 35 games, BrickO, although you've played a few Turkeys. happy.png
