Hi superking500--master chess is like ordinary chess or any other game/sport/club/job/etc. Some players are genuine friends, some absolutely despise one another, and most just have the basic rapport or acquaintanceship that comes from being around the same people all the time. They're lucky in that they play a game which encourages absolute silence, so that usually helps with tolerating the person across the board.
