Yes, but you could get a Deep Chessbase engine for $120 USD I think. I'd wait for the next ones though since Deep Shredder 13 has been out for quite some time.

It doesn't seem very popular, especially for club player. I think that it can simulate an OTB experience for the non-club player but besides that with all the chess engine (Houdini, Fritz, Shredder ect) available there no point buying an expensive machine like a Novag.

You could simulate OTB tornements by using a real chess board with shredder/fritz. The machines you talk of are pretty much obsolete in terms of practicality .
