Is your dad an immigrant? Some languages use different words and immigrants often translate literally. I’ve never heard eats in English, but I have in other languages.

if i would say it when i describe the game it would be the swedish word for takes.
I used to say eats when I was kid, as I got older I say takes or captures.
I capture pieces casually and silently. Your move.

In the circles I frequent and at most standard tournaments they say "chom choms". Just kidding I usually say take, capture, cap, grab, snag depending on how I'm feeling. I also tend to say "got em!" a lot.
I've used 'take' so much that it's weird for me to use something else.

I ‘pak’ or ‘neem’, in English that would translate to ‘take’.

In Spanish you can say tomar (take), comer (eat), or capturar (capture). In Argentina, each is understood, but I’d say eat is most common.
Yep. Tomar sounds a bit like, whoa, high level here.

I just said that I pak or neem but in Dutch most common is ‘ik sla een stuk’. That translates to ‘I hit a piece’.
slay, capture, take, but never eats. I do occassionally suggest to my opponent that a queen attack without positioning other pieces disrupts my queen's breakfast and if they continue such an unlikely advance, the knights will surely restore peace in the kingdom by escorting the miscreant majesty to the royal dungeon.
I'm Chinese and i'm not sure about mandarin but in Cantonese we say "食" which directly means eat. But I do say "take"
