Probably. I tried playing at my university's chess club after only playing online for a couple years and I lost about 500 points of strength just due to the fact that I couldn't visualize a 3D board.
Do you think 3D theme setting helps you in OTB?

No. I can't use a 3D Board on a computer. They look so terrible. I was playing years before we were doing much of anything on computers and 2D boards. After enough hours on a real chessboard, I don't think it goes away. And I learned from books, where the diagrams were all 2D. I can't see much difference in conceptualization. They seem about equal with enough time and practice.
Funny you guys say that. I have been a OTB player for most of my chess life. When I started playing online (last month), I hated the 2D visuals. I could only deal with it by switching to the 3D models.
Now let me say this out loud:
I LOVE THE 3D MODELS OF CHESS.COM - THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THAT FOR THE PLAYERS WHO ABSOLUTELY HATE 2D BOARDS. AND FUCK ALL OF YOU WHO DON'T LIKE 3D HERE. GET A ROOM.

Understood. 
I feel what you're saying, OP. I've probably played something like 98% of all chess games in my life on chess.com, and I seem to be so particular to the 2D visuals and interface here that my play is not only worse OTB, but on other sites as well.

Well, I've decided to start using Tactics Trainer in 3D mode to see if it helps me IRL. It was hard at first but got easier pretty quickly. Can't wait to go to my club and blow them all away! 
Tried 3D a couple of times, but it feels visually impaired.
Unless, I constantly adjust the view/angle.

Well, I'm still doing it and it is becoming easier every time. I hope it helps me OTB.
When I play OTB I seem to not comprehend the entire board as easily as I do when I play here on Chess.com. Obviously, OTB is 3D and most settings here (mine included) on CC are 2D. I find the 3D setting here on CC hard to visualize. The question is...Do you think that by training here on CC using the 3D setting it will help you visualize better when you play OTB? Thanks.
