i would like some comments about this subject.

i found that there is a 18 year old kid on here who posted hiself as a coach and he only has a rating of 1200 which is where most new people start. he has only played one game according to his chess profile and he has posted himself as a coach. i sent him a message asking him why he did this seeing as though he didn't have the experience to teach anyone yet because he was still learning himself.

the question i would like to post here is simple

do you think i was wrong for speaking up when the coaches forum is used to teach people how to play chess better? or should a beginner player be able to post as a coach with no experience to be able to help someone learn?

If they are just starting on chess.com then maybe they are better then u think. and if they are 1200 and they are teaching players say 1000 or below then yes they are good enough to teach as long as they have a passion to teach let them, then when the students are ready they will find a better one later....Cool

No I don't think you was wrong at all if he or she is not a coach then he or she should not have post themselfs as a coach. It is people on here who is really looking for coachs to teach them the game of chess and he or she is on here given false hope.

If they are good teachers then even if they are not good players per say they can help more then a good player who isnt as good at teaching. Thats my thoughts anyway....Cool

shadoslayer asked when the person joined this person joined jan 19 of 2008 and has only played one game according to his chess.com profile

thank you dalmatinac i agree with you and with doingme you must have experience to be able to teach otherwise you are wasting someones time who could be learning from someone who is able to truly teach them.

i appreciate your thoughts on the subject littleman but if you cant play yourself then how can you possibly teach someone else? it takes xp to be able to teach and you only attain that xp by playing the game yourself.

you wouldn't try to teach someone how to play tennis if you had only taken one lesson yourself would you?

or give someone ski lessons if you had only taken one lesson yourself would you?

this is the same thing without xp you cant possibly teach someone how to do something you dont know how to do properly yourself this is my point

I don't beleive that you can track a person's experience by their rating or when they joined chess.com.  The student must be able to dicipher whether the coach is truly a coach or not.

However based upon your inquiry it would appear as if this individual may not have the expereince to teach anyone.  But still the ultimate responsibility is with the student - NOT the teacher.   How bad do u want it ??????

It was wrong of that player to post himself as a coach, but, if his play is rated around 1200, then he is easily qualified to teach the basics to a beginner.  I myself could likely teach someone until they reached the 1300-1400 level.

This sounds more like a case of peers helping peers.  I wanted to help my daughter with her school work.  I was unable to help with her math because it was beyond my ability.  I agree with those who stated that if you are at a level above the student and have the heart and mind to help someone and are honest about your level of knowledge it is ok.  Probably many actual coaches want someone who has at least had the basics.  This means that someone else might have to teach a beginner.

i thnk they need 2 play more games frst and then if ther gd enough then yes they should be allowed 2 teach

Its ultimately the responsibility of the student to determine the "credentials" of any "coach/teacher" he may be considering. I never had any formal lessons or a teacher/coach until after I had already become NM. Ofcourse, much also depends on the student's ability when determining what credentials he will consider for a teacher/coach.

If u had any reason, you lost it all with your words. This kind of posts reveals a very poor mind uncapable of the slightest civilized arguments.

I've played over 70 games on chess.com and I can make a new profle today and start at 1200 again. There is a fair amount of anonimity if it matters, or a player could be completely techno connected, either way, Mr. Dan Ryan has always reminded me this is 64 squares of honesty, so what if the guy wants to instruct.

Real nice JRQuatrro, the man asks a simple question and you can't answer like a civilzed adult. I see from your profile you are a whopping 21 years old i guess you think that entitles you to treat other people like crap. If you read this and get pissed well so be it, i am 46 and have heard and used every nasty word in the english language at some point but i'm also mature enough to know when to refrain from such language in my opinion it is you that needs to get a life.

Bravo, Markle! I'm 13 and, in my opinion, I am praising Markle like a "civilized adult".

I think u are making a big confusion.on my post i quoted someone else, those are not my words.check again.i expect apologies from you.

Avatar of highflyer
yes you are correct sir i misread the quotations and i do apologize to you it is jr quatrro i would like to address here. this is a forum where topics are brought before the members of chess.com for their opinions but your opinion did not need to go into such childesh chatter. you sir need to understand that you dont talk to people that way on this site. you probably were dropped on your head a few to may times when you were ;young because you have no sense. and again i apologize to smartattack for the confusion on my part.
