Does anyone know when Magnus is playing next? Or will he pull a Fischer now?!

Has he mentioned when he plans on playing again? I know he mentioned he wanted to take time off after the match. Y'all don't think he'll do a Fischer & stop playing do ya?

MrKornKid

Naw man, he's gonna kick it for a long while.  "knowing" Magnus he is probably studying more then ever.  Time off is a fasaud*sp* -.-

He is already retired. Look for a Carlsen-Anand return match in 2033.

He's not a raving lunatic like Fisher was so I'm guessing he'll be back soon enough.

Well I wouldnt go that far. As Magnus was taking a break from chess he decided to do a tangent on his modeling career and try his hand out on directing. See the result : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3TFNIqIqPM

He just finished the Gates Open with a surprising upset after an early blunder in the opening.

I guess I don't get it... why would he "pull a Fischer?"
Makes no sense.

Well no, it doesn't.

But then, Fischer pulling a Fischer didn't make any sense either, but it still happened.

Anand didn't play any classical tournaments until four-five months after the World Championships 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2012. Carlsen took two months off between India and Zurich, so it isn't exactly unusually much.

littledragons

this is going to be super awesome!

Taking a planned few months break can hardly be compared to suddenly dropping off into obscurity for years.

I bet Anand hopes he does, too! Laughing

Lol - match of the century!

MrDamonSmith

You guys are funny. I had forgotten all about this thread.

I just looked at the Zurich scedule. I'm surprised Aronian, Naka, Gelf, & Caruana would schedule back to back events like that. They just finished Tata.

It's going to be interesting to see how Anand & Carlsen do. Will they both feel the need or urge to prove something? Like Anand wanting to show the world that he still is at the top even if he lost his title. Carlsen wanting to have an absolutely brutal performance (in a good way) the 1st event after winning the title? The saga continues..............

Swiss Francs and Swiss sponsors can be a pretty good argument I should think ...

MrDamonSmith

Yeah. Cha_ching!

I think the positive ones outnumber the negative ones.
