I assume you mean genetics. One who inherited better genes have the advantage. The slow learners however could upset the quick learners by hard study and work. And overconfidence can be a factor too. Never underestimate the underdogs.

The Caste System is about genetics. The Brahmana caste are descendants of rishi's like Bhrigu and Vasishta. The Ksatriya caste are descendants of Surya or Soma. I don't know about the Vaisya, Sudra and the Outcasts.

Ask Mir Sultan Khan.

Ask experts like Sha Rukh Khan or Mahatma Ghandi.

Caste probably affects chess playing ability indirectly, because lower caste is associated with fewer social resources, so there is less time for practising chess and less money for buying lessons.

kumar gaurav was from a poor family and he was junior champion in India last year.

a) no, it does not. Infact, caste system was always about killing the merit and giving high pedestal to mediocre people who had nothing to show except their ancestry. And caste system was responsible for the innumerous defeats India had to face against barbaric invaders. Every tom, dick & harry has conquered and enslaved India atleast once in history. Even though India was much more advanced, richer and populous than them. Why? Caste System! So, while Indians were busy discriminating against each other in the name of caste system, they were collectively defeated and enslaved by foreigners.

b) if you want to argue that caste system is somehow related to chess. Then, your rating brings a bad reputation to not just you but your entire caste. So, you should first increase your rating before making such case. But, that would require you to work on your chess.

c) come out of casteist thinking!

Is Indian Caste same as US version of Low/Mid/Upper income class?

Brendan_UK

Well said Ashvapathi 👏👏👏 I'm glad independent India's constitution banned discrimination on the basis of caste and is largely consigned to history, and I hope that any remaining  places will very soon be free of it, repression is regressive.

Hi Isabela, here is an article explaining the caste system:

What is India's caste system?http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-35650616

So in that Caste system, can a Shudra or a Dalits elevate themselves to Brahmins once they have achieved education and financial status similar to them? Or is it more on ones family classification appointment from past generations?  @Brendan_UK, thank you for the info.

Historically there was really no way out. If you were born into the lowest Castes you basically remained there and were to a large extent segregated from the upper castes, it is worse than many forms of racism and Appartheid etc.

It now being dismantled in teh name of equality but in the country areas etc it is still very widespread.

Caste system is just a social class sytem of poor and rich people determend by there class with you get by birth. The same as you can speak for the upper class or the lower class. The only difference is that it that it is gotten directly by birth. I think India has allready broke with this oldfasion caste system. I hope so for the Indians. If it influence chess? I think only indirect cause by the financiel situation and lesser possibilities. But in terms of talent for chess there is no correlation between chess ability and caste.

There are 500 millions of Shudras and 400 millions of Dalits.
