Does Chess.com slow down a connection when a player no longer has premium membership?

I stopped paying for chess.com when I felt the site did not take an abuse claim I made seriously.  Since then my connection has been horrible and the lag has cost me games in speed games.  Am I the only one to experience this change ?

bump

Martin_Stahl

Basic members have ads, which likely will result in some speed differences.

HurryHurryB

the lag is totally unreal these days they're loading too much on these pages it's a disgrace

UES96

it definitely is not the experience that I used to have playing on this site

MrkDS

Maybe its at your end with your service provider or the level of service you pay for.

Tdrev

you could be correct i know several people who claim they have quit chess.com saying the same thing going to other chessites. maybe the adds are to blame for lag/loading

UES96

well I have not changed service provider since I have stopped paying for Chess.com but the lag issue is much greater now. I can only conclude that if you stop paying your connectivity is downgraded.

i wouldnt be suprised if its problem with the site. i sometimes disconnect and it says "you got 60 seconds to join" and stuff like that. i reconnect while its still 10-20 seconds left according to the schreen and still it says i abandoned and lost

Awhile back, CC as part of the "incentive" to pay for membership, openly advertised a faster connection for premium members. Whether they presently use faster, dedicated servers for premium members only staff can say. (But it certainly appears to be the case.) Anyways, Ads will definitely slow down any connection, no matter how fast it is. You can always do your own ping testing for the answer. If you're a premium member, log in as a non-member and view any difference.

[Disregard IAMBWW - his comment about higher rated players being "responsible" is utter nonsense.] The only responsibility is with the site. Any "class" of players can in no way, shape or form be reasonable for the speed of connections. Perhaps a faster, dedicated server might be used, by example, for Titled Tuesday Events, in an attempt minimize disconnections. A completely reasonable choice. Most all sites offer better services when $ is payed or for events that attract attention.

HurryHurryB

the pages are too complex and slows everything down they're trying to profit at the expense of our games

Titled_Patzer

It's a .com site. Not .net.

A profit is the priority. You won't find any argument. Naturally, choices made regarding policies can vary  and undergo changes. Agreed. The pages are definitely chalk full of bells and whistles, a lot of unnecessary information imo. Sometimes more becomes less.

Load up a game using Ad blocker, then take off ad blocker, see if you see a difference, It might be because of the ads, but you can find out.

HurryHurryB

the main problem is simply that the ui (user interface) is far too complicated and thus takes too long to render. simply to go elsewhere and notice how much faster the play is: simple page=much faster rendering time

I think you meant .org

gibberish .. as usual. Nobody could understand that rant. If he "meant to say something", then say it in the 1st place.  Incoherent mumbo-jumbo. This kid is abusing other things (his brain), besides the forums.

IAMBWW - "I meant to say that in directly it's the sites responsible cause if everyone says that if it's the site's responsible we wouldn't know what's the actual responsible of the site is..."

Care to try again ? 1st get your head screwed on . It's obviously disconnected. (We might be able to make an attempt to understand elementary grade school English, but that was incomprehensible.) Intentionally misspelling members names is childish and disrespectful. But that is all you ever bring to any discussion.

I say deliberate misspelling shows panache!

Wrong. Only indicates disrespect, just as you disrespect the NM Title by your user name. The kids here are all beyond redemption. Regrettably, education is not in the books.

Titled_Patzer

You are wasting your own time IAMBWW. How could I be wasting your time? It is you that feels the need to spend time denying your disrespect.

Are you of a coherent mind yet? Care to further elaborate? Please do continue with this line of thought, of how "high rated players" are responsible for lag encountered on the site.

Titled_Patzer

Well, that was evident, because it is nonsense.
