& he's bad to the bone at rock, paper, scissors.

Carlsen has devoted most of his life too chess to acheive his greatness. The thing is out of all the people who devoted their lives too chess he is the best. That could be considered either talent, or a superior training regimen.

Carlsen is the strongest player in history... Of course he has talent, more talent than anyone else in history.... Duh.

That interview (#117) ... the interviewer's accent is also cute (chess ohscar, prohdigy ... ). At 2:35 she says "Do you have any girls in chess you still want to reach?" Hahaha ...

lol does he have talent? LOL yes, and he doesnt have autism

Even if he did have autism so what?  Wouldn't make him any less or more of a chessplayer or talent.

Hmmm... I think he is always lucky. That is all. With a bit of luck you can also get to 28 hundred

No offense but consistently defeating 2700s isn't luck.

I just wanted to be sarcastic, but obviously I wasn't enough.

It's the Internet, hard to tell sometimes.

He has a massive talent. Most of his moves come from intuition. It's just on top of that he also has a superb memory.

Just want to point out if a person memorized and spent a lot of effort he would have great intuition as well, so saying magnus has great intuition doesn't really prove hes talented. (i still think he is)

Once again, Magnus Carlsen isn’t merely “talented.” He is profoundly gifted. No one who has posted to this thread will ever play chess at his level even if they seriously studied and played the game for a hundred years. He is at the summit of Mt. Everest. Most Super GM’s are about three-quarters of the way up. And the rest of us are still struggling to reach the lowest base camp. Actually most of us are still in the valley, stumbling around, lost in the forest. We can’t even see the lowest base camp. But that is merely our opinion. >:[

is this trolling?

No it was a sincere doubt I had. I knew he had a good memory so I was thinking if it was the sole reason for his sucess.

MrDamonSmith

A combination of many things in my opinion. Like a perfect storm.

Carlsen is a prodij. He can read a chess book like he is reading a novel without the help of a board or computer when he was a kid and play that the next day! Let us not insult him by saying he has a disease!

SmyslovFan

I can read a chess book without a board. That's not what proves he's a prodigy. His positional understanding and ability to memorize tens of thousands of games is better proof.

The best proof is his tournament and match results.   >:[

Did any world champ not have talent?

(thats actually a serious question)

greenfreeze

i saw him on 60 minutes several years ago

they said that magnus just has phenomenol memory and can remember everything he sees

so his talent is that he has a really good memory

it is like playing chess with an open books and all knowledge in your brain

that is his talent

plus i guess he is a model too so you could say he has talent walking down a cat walk and modeling clothes.

Autism is not a mental illness, it is a pervasive neurological developmental disorder and a neurotype.  It's like I mostly saw starting on the first page disease disease diease lol.  and there is a total difference.  If I'm exagerrating please forgive my sensitivity.

Anyway I am on the autism spectrum and obviously not a great chess player, also all the constant research I've done over the years has yielded very little information on Chess players.  Bobby Fischer was said to have had Asperger syndrome but anyway, without any proof is it fair to tag Magnus with a disorder he may not have?  Also if Magnus has an advantage, he never chose to have it and was born and therefore should not be blamed or spited for it anyway, see what I mean?

Finally, Magnus Carlsen is clearly gifted with what can certainly be called talent no matter the case or reason.

Anyway, sorry if I like, jumped on you guys lol  Peace
