Does playing (reckless) gambits improve your tactical vision?

Playing outside your comfort zone will improve your tactical vision. It doesn't need to be reckless though. Many players stick with a few openings they like & the positions become familiar & the opening moves are often mechanical. The Sicilian Dragon is a good example.

Tactical puzzles should also be part of your training but you can walk away from a puzzle or have a few tries at it. Playing live chess in unfamiliar positions will sharpen you up. If you want to really get sharp bet your house on the outcome of the game.

Playing unusual gambits & openings will also expand your repetoire.People are going to play them against you from time to time so you may as well get some practice at dealing with them.

+1 I can say with experience this way works

That ever nice couple , RichieOprah started the fun by asking three totally unrelated and idiotic questions :

  • 1: does lifting weights the wrong way make ones muscles stronger?
  • 2: if i lift with my feet will my arms get bigger?
  • 3: does television watching help me make better movies?

I will take the effort to answer these with :

  • 1: Yes , it does make some muscles stronger , but maybe not the ones you want.
  • 2: Yes they would , if you'd had your arms tight in a wrope hanging from a tree.
  • 3: Yes , because if you don't watch the stuff you made yourself , then how could you judge it , improve it,learn from it. Only then you may criticise Tarantino as a peer.

Hope this was to your satisfaction ...

To the OP , my answer is yes. But not for too long.

Bad analogy. Yes, lifting weights with your legs can make your arms slightly bigger and stronger. Your body produces human growth hormone when under stress such as lifting weights. While you won't gain huge amounts of muscle on your arms by doing squats etc. you will get a boost in HGH which will systemically increase muscle mass.

Certain television watching could help you make better film. Depends on what you are watching and what kind of movies you plan on making... a show on the history of film may inspire you in some way.... a documentary on production techniques may add something to a later work...
