I recently read that chess boards are selling out in stores across the world because of this series. I would say it had a very positive influence on the Chess World community. Kudos to the makers and actors in the film.

Awesome! It's great that chess is gaining popularity because of this show happy.png

A prediction for the sequel surely to come.

Beth marries the cowboy. Their offspring enters into today’s world of internet play !

haha it surely would be interesting to have a show based on internet chess play

There's so many people involved, which affects their friends and family in a way as well, that I would think one is being made now.

A sequel has been mentioned by the actors- willing to do so. But production would be a ways off in the future. It was a major production- and repeating one possesses quite the obstacles in today’s world. Surely one will happen if funding is made - but likely 2 years off at minimum if a repeat performance is desired.

less people that offer draws and then resign

I’ve heard the complaint so many times that Mr. Shaibel’s d4 isn’t the Queen’s gambit.

To me he was saying “I’m going to show you the Queen’s gambit” and makes the first move of it. That’s not a mistake, it’s a lead-in.

I don't think anyone used the Queen's Gambit in the whole series.

There are definitely flaws in the Queen's Gambit, but overall it's a very realistic show in my opinion. I thought the first tournament Beth Harmon played in, the Kentucky State Championship, was very realistic. It's clear to me that the show producers put a lot of thought into making the scenes as accurate as possible. What do you guys think?

they made it pretty realistic...

Or he made a little mistake. After all he is just a hobby player... So it is not necessarily the show's fault.

It’s unlikely he made a mistake. He gives Beth his copy of of the book Modern Chess Openings, which he undoubtedly read many times and used as a reference.

I’m sticking with the “I’m showing you the Queen’s Gambit and this is the first move” theory.
