Does your heart also beat fast during a Blitz game?

A lot of people make fun of chess players, perpetuating the stereotype of the nerdy kid with glasses, but to me a serious Blitz game gives me an adrenaline rush. My heart starts pumping like crazy when a critical position is reached. Winning under immense time pressure is the same to me as submitting an opponent in jiu jitsu, one's more physical but the feeling is the same.

Absolutely. In fact, I used to play in a league for a club - I played for Keele University in the UK - and even in over the board games that would last 2-3 hours, at certainly points in the game my heart would be beating like a drum. It's one of the reasons I stopped playing in the league. People might think it is boring and sedate. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Especially when you recover from a bad position. It's no joke.😣

ShaoniHiya

Me too!

mbereobong

For me, it's when I'm in a tight position with little time left.

Do you play a lot of 3min?

I only get it in 3min and Bullet.

hoodoothere

It happens to me but only in extremely tactical games.

My heart is bumping fast and my hands tremble if I am in time trouble

AnnaAction
Happens to me when I have time trouble (1 minute to 5 seconds)
Tja_05

Only OTB when I have less than a minute left.

ChessLebaneseSalah

yes especially when the game counts for something such as playing a titled player or a last round game of a tournament in a must win situation

Verbeena

Although it is fun and exciting getting those adrenalin rushes, i try to calm myself down when it happens because i tend to move too fast and have a harder time to observe the board properly.

Lc0_1

it happens to me when i'm hoping my opponent doesn't see my sneaky mate in one

Colby-Covington

Exactly!

Especially when you hear that 20 second warning sound effect, that always gets me.

You win as many games as you lose.  So, you must feel like someone has put you into submission frequently and experience a subsequent bad feeling.

Me, persoinally? I am doing ok right now, brushing up on my openings atm.

I love your theory about drop-outs!

Sartradjm

Yes. But I am taking a lot of drugs.

Im new to chess.com, I play 60min and my heart starts pounding from the beginning, I have to take deep breaths to try and slow it down, I felt like resigning the game today, it took about 10 min to slow it down.
