15 draws in a row. Do you remember when everybody (including him), made fun of Giri because of his 14 in a row?

Sad, that never happened to Kasparov or Fischer.

Can we talk about how funny it is to make puns out of famous players names? like I've seen some usernames on here such as Cagnuts Balsen, or Magnuts Carlsen... Anyway yes we need to see some wins from the champ or people will continue to doubt him... However bear in mind that 15 straight draws is also 15 straight undefeated games...

They said today's game makes a new record of 21 straight draws in classical... can anyone confirm?

sure? I´m sure about 4 tata steel games + 12 wc match, I don´t think he drew 5 games in the European championship, he must have beaten some lower rated players there

Tata steel is a very strong tournament,so it is normal that 2 strong chess players(between the best in the world) can draw. Yes,maybe fide should invent a rule(Sofia rule is too permissive): you cannot accept or decline or offer draw unless there are 50 moves rule or 3 repetitions. Then chess would be a real battle xD.

He did draw his final five games in the European Club Cup. He played 6 rounds, winning the first one.

OH NO!!!  The death of chess is upon us again.

People said the same thing about the Alekhine vs. Capablanca match.  All the draws, and the same opening.

People said that Dragon was doomed after Fischer beat Larsen.

Chess is fine.

He broke Giris record (20), and is at 21 draws.

Take it easy guys. Magnus will win classical chess game some day for sure! evil.png

Avatar of autobunny

despite all that he's still the champ.  so what does that say about his competition?

besides, i don't think he likes this drawing too much

Avatar of Tnxcya

it was a call idea of Carlsen to draw all the normal games and win all the rapid rounds, knowing he will win. ( I'm a Carlsen fan )

I don't think the point here is to say that chess is dead. Maybe just that Magnus has played it safer than he used to.... I think he was indeed one of the people making fun of Girl's draw streak awhile back.

Did anyone actually see Carlsen's four draws? They were all extremely hard-fought. These aren't tame little affairs, followed by a quick handshake. Exchange sacrifices in the opening in games one and two, the longest games of the day in rounds three and four. Sometimes your opponent won't make that one little mistake you need

I hate people who do that pun thing, they should be banned. Full stop!

Kasparov had 17 draws in a row. (vs Karpov in 1984 WCC match)

He's winning games now, we can all relax. For a while there, it looked like Caruana was going to become #1 ranked in the world sitting at home.
