1.e4 is considered best for more open, attacking styles of play. Fischer has almost never played 1.d4 unless forced, or if previous games showed large advantages with 1.d4. Basically, beginners as white have better winning chances with 1.e4. Once you get to the advanced level, it's completely your pick. I personally pick e4, because I enjoy attacking positions.
Most grand masters today chose d4 over e4.

Cause I want to learn about both of them. I have books on 1.d4 at my house, not e4, and my OTB rating is 1150 because I lack skill with 1.e4, so I need to learn both, even if I like 1.d4 better.

If your OTB rating is 1150 you should forget d4, concentrate on 1. e4 and learn to play the open games, you first need to learn how to attack, and train your calculation skills. Only after that should you play semi-closed games and after that closed games.
Closed games won't help you to improve as long as you don't know how to play open games.
I like to play e4 because it gives good attacking possibilies. d4 is bad anyway against a much stronger opponent, since the stronger player usually better at positional play. In an attacking, tactical match you have good chances.
My chess trainer said that, since I played d4 for so long, stick with it, and you will learn just as fast. So, if I like closed games better, that is my choice.
why?
D4 is better because most people know that you will play d4 and that you know that they know.... so playing d4 has surprise value!
e4 isnt more attacking than d4.
