Efficient way to play VOTE CHESS

Dear All,

Most of the vote chess games is not achieving its goal, random votes spoiling the whole game. I am seriously thinking that lot of modification is required for vote chess rules. My suggestion as follows

1) Each team should be represented by one captain and one vice captain.

2) Team members can able to select any one his team member as a captain/vice captain at any time.

3) Only captain can make a move for his team.

4) All members can invole in the discussion & they can submit thier votes, these total votes information available to captain for his final decision (only number of votes per move)

I am expecting more possible opinions in this regard.

Can we please have a more efficient rules to play better VOTE CHESS GAMES? Smile

3) alone means it's not vote chess.

I've played in a number of teams that had no problems.

One, a small group had almost every member discussing and no stealth voting.

Another, Team England, was just well run, with a nominated captain who said when it was time to vote and recommended moves after the discussion.

Perhaps you need to try new teams.

You shouldn't be able to vote in the first x minutes after the opponent has moved.

@ Scottrf :  I agree with you, I have no issues with small groups with10 to 15 players but some big groups with 50+ members, most of the votes are only random votes

@FuzzleOIL : You made a valid point, Ex: For a 3 days game, first 36 hrs discussions only & voting next 36 hrs.

Thanks for sharing your opinions..

I'm involved in my first vote chess games now and am a little disappointed.

I thought there would be lots of discussion about theory and exposure to new ideas. But, so far, it has not happened that way.

Instead there is one other player who does this a little. The rest just vote without saying a word or choose moves just because they like the move with no input as to why.

Also, and this is more of an issue that perhaps Chess.com could look at. Unlike regular Online Games, there is no reminder beyond the one notification after a move that vote chess games still need your vote. So, what happens is I forget about the game and next thing I know, it is time for the next move. This is really annoying.

I think, the rules of VC are OK !

A captain should be  able to co-ordinate the discussions & suggest the best possible move as a conlusion of the discussions ,but the democratic right of each member to contribute to the final vote should be preserved though it has an inherent danger of going a wrong move forward which can be easily overcome by giving a timely call in the main group's notes or even by the news post in case of emergency !

When a single member is handed over the power for deciding the final vote ,the other members tend to become passive &  just follow his pug marks rather than discussion  !

The true VC environment is that in which each & every member's comment is respected & becomes a part of the discussion irrespective of the rating of that members facilitating the free flow of chess knowledge !

When even the low rated members are sure that their voice will be heard & their opinion will be considered ,they will come forward to express it & then it will be the responsibility ofthe higher rated members to convince them how & why they are wrong.Once this takes place, most of the members will be interested in discussions ,instead of random voting ,as no one really wants their team to loose !:-)

One effective way would be to really read the other's comments.

In this match http://www.chess.com/votechess/game?id=63258, there are 18 votes for a move that will lead to a mate in 2 against us. Yell

And this happens severals times.

I participated in many VC games and in many teams. VC chess can be really a good way for weaker players to learn something new from stronger, in many aspects - opening theory, positional understanding, making up a plan, tactics and many other. But different people do have different approaches and different purposes when participating in VC games, sometimes it is not more than a minute-long look on the board and submitting some move, without reading any comments, because I often saw that even after it had been clearly explained why that particular move was bad, anyway there were many votes given for that move.

I for my impressions of the VC chess in well-organized teams - one of the things I was impressed most of all - there are no moves among submitted moves which were not mentioned during discussion. And it is of course logical - the more possible way the participants discuss the less probability there is that some good move or some good possibility is omitted

Is anyone clear about what happens if there is a tie? The help system seems to say whichever one received the first vote wins, but I think I remember someone saying this was not the case.

Because, this is one thing I would like to see changed. I think whoever is a captain, their vote should win in the case of a tie.

schachfan1

The case when several moves get equal number of votes Smile - it's just the thing about which I am curious probably most of all in the VC chess - every time there is a tie, I really cannot be sure about what move the system will choose as the "winning move"

amrita1

In case of a tie,the move that receives the last vote goes forward & is shown at the top of the list of the votes !

schachfan1

Thanks for explaining that

FuzzleOIL

In the (german) help, it says that the move that was voted first will win.

"Wenn mehrere Züge dieselbe Anzahl von Stimmen erhalten, dann wird davon derjenige Zug ausgeführt, der zuerst eine Stimme erhalten hat."

Undecided

Dann ist es eine große Lotterie, welcher Zug gewinnt Laughing

Not sure what Schachfan just said. But it appears the help is outdated. I'd heard before that it was and that the vote chess did not work the way it is described there.

Above someone has said it is actually the one that receives the last vote. Not sure where the information came from. But if it is true, it would seem to be a better way than accepting the one that was voted for first.

Yes, the last vote is the determining vote now, as of sometime in the past year or so.  The help is out of date.

I play a lot of VC games.  Large teams are the worst, perhaps because many of the large groups are interested in winning the numbers game and invite many new players who play their first VC games and don't understand how they should work.

The best teams are those in which good (2000 level) players participate and help analyze.  Lower rated players learn why their moves are weak or blunders.  However in order to keep strong players on the team, it is necessary not to continually ignore analysis and vote for randomly poor moves that undermine the position.  Good players become frustrated and leave the game to the patzers (like me) and then no one learns anything.  The key is to keep the strong players involved with strong analysis and good play at the top, and for us lower players to wait and learn before voting.

I would suggest that if you are unhappy with VC with your present team, quit that group and join a smaller, more dedicated group that is truly interested in playing VC.  VC is a great way to learn with the proper team.
