Einstein, Buddha, and Elon Musk on Chess as a Waste of Time

Stupid post. If you're so concerned with time wasting you wouldn't have made this.

There's nothing wrong with having fun, plus what brings any method of time spending value? And who are you to dictate to others the value of their time spent?

Chess playing can build character in some ways I'm sure. And I've seen it in myself.

Congrats. The last move is tricky because there are three possibilities, but the site architecture only permits one.

@EggmanHamScrambleton is a great example of the Dunning-Kruger Effect, where dumb people think they are actually smart.

@long-quach is the same, he is also got affected Dunning-Kruger Effect, he is digging himself something like finding a treasure on to nothing.

You got it backward. Chess is fun, fascinating, and healthy for the mind, whereas obsessing over existential questions and pointless philosophy is unhealthy and leads to psychological disorders. Philosophy should be banned in schools and core classes should be replaced with chess.

At the end is a game, you just should think about enjoyment and fun. Some people decide to use their free time watching a movie or playing a video game, at the end if you use your time playing chess and you get enjoyment and happiness good for you! People keep trying to find “productive” reasons to play chess and at then end is just a game :)
miltthechessmaster

If you enjoy doing it and it's not detrimental to your health or others, then it's worth your time. People get so caught up in everything needing to be productive in some way

Artificial means more man made not fake it's created in this context maybe in other contexts it means fake lol but not in this one

BigChessplayer665

Well yes again it depends this instance it's man made intelligence means the same thing as artificial intelligence

BigChessplayer665

Words can mean more than one thing lol you can read it as *fake" intelligence (not exactly true but kinda true) or man made intelligence (more accurate) it may just be a computer but it can learn on its own (kinda we can't until GAI() that's the point of artificial intelligence to be able to learn its not about how smart it is

siiiyaaaaaa

for your kind information chess was invented in India.

BigChessplayer665

For your kind there is something called Chinese chess

BigChessplayer665

Can't it just mean both? How about we agree to disagree ...

BigChessplayer665

I wouldn't trust studies from 1800s but alright I the 1900s for ex some people tried to say climate change was a lie but it eventually got outed like how smoking was bad for you you can try to claim that ai is some evil being but there are people who created it don't blame the ai for it being stupid it might not be perfect but with the vast amount of information as long as you use it SPARINGLY it is super helpful to have a computer that can learn yes it manipulates you but keep in mind it gets its ideas from us a good chunk of the time just be careful how you use it

Ps older generations are always scared of new technology ex cars what we need to do is make sure ai has laws it has to follow or certain type of programs to avoid corruptions

I wouldn't trust advertising ....

Hello long quach, remember me? Maybe i learned to be smarter, and you too from getting a mute and horribly was beaten by me. Let me make a point of actual Vietnam in my view. [ad hominem. He's not talking about anyhing.]

Now i know ur tricks editing my message, so dont try as ur POV will be horribly disproven whatsoever. [ad hominem]

I know that chess may be older than everything u listed combined but here i will list the benefits of chess compare so some things.

Chess: around 1500 years

Vaccine for rabies: saved the world, despite younger than chess around 1300 years. [We're talking chess as a game. Chess is game that has being around longer than any other games. We're not talking about other inventions. Fire the greatest invention.]

-So you mean the greatest invention didnt matter to chess? If humans had no vaccines against the deadliest disease then you will be more careful in rabies rather than chatting in a chess website.

Iphone and other devices, Internet: Spread the information around the world, humans got smarter, they get to know all the knowledge, they now get to know the current information. [Just because you can download a book in 1 second, doesn't mean you can read it 1 second. It takes the same amount of time to read a paper book as a Kindle version. And we are talking about games, not other inventions. By the way, the Kindle didn't work anymore on Windows 7. The a clay tablets what we can read Gilgamesh from, clay tablets, not computer tablets.]

-So what is your point of "downloading blah blah blah" ? We are speaking about what benefits Chess would bring to you compared to other inventions, by far inventing Internet is already an invention, chess is the way to use in times where there isn't anything to do and those people are really dumb in other factors except chess.

Chatgpt, Stockfish and some other AIs: They gave us the best possible answer, they are smart and can be used for subjects you dont know. Its really useful in improving, and it can decipher the real perfect chess. [I know since TRS-80, in 1980. Chess was programmed on vacuum tubes. Chess gave rise to computer programming.

-Chess never gave the opportunity to develop AIs like we had now, what evidence will you base on ? AI not only was used in chess but other stuffs that is even better.

What chess would bring to you? [Chess is an art. "To know one art, you know all arts." My saying.

In an interview with Magnus Carlsen, he said that he never took an iq test before, and therefore making fans think that he is smart. U are the deceived kids that didnt even look deeply. Even the strongest player in the World didnt admit him being a smart guy and uses his image to trick you and some other kids who think like you. There hasnt been really any record of a chess player doing an iq test and actually smart. All iq assumptions are assumptions not real iq and that scientists are trying to make an image that "Kasparov is the smartest" while it has never been proven with a rightful iq test. [There is no such thing as "smart" in the artificial intelligence sense, in the sense of having the most computing power. What we have are experts in a field. An expert in one field is not an expert in another.field. Kasparov doesn't know physics. Einstein doesn't know chess.]

Chess may have art but comparing to others, the most intense wars chess is just a small fraction to the things that also have art.

AIs have intelligence. Computing power doesnt mean the AI will be smart, Stockfish even though have a strong computing power can still lose to Torch. Also if you said AIs have no intelligence then you proved my point that chess is a waste of time as AIs' intelligence are far beyond than our human minds and thank you for proving it that AIs have no intelligence = no intelligent improvements to your brain.

Chess maybe a good game but it cant match to other great inventions. I can agree chess is a good invention but calling it as some sort of a great thing ia b.s.
