ELO Independence

In my most recent game, I was kind of proud of the way I played. I was going for a more aggressive, inventive attacking style because I want to try to play like Alekhine.

Even though I fluctuate between a 800 - 1100 rating on chess.com, I have been playing (my good) games at a reviewed average of 1400 - 1500.

This last game (I hope to be able to post a screenshot or something) I was rated 1100 against a 150. In games that I think that I play well against an opponent that did silly things, like a scholars mate that is defended, I usually still get a 600 to the opponents 150 - 300 ELO, which I can understand as being adjusted due to uhhh poor gameplay in general.

Is ELO rating for individual games independent of each player? Could this have been a higher rated game for myself if the opponent didn't make weaker moves, as long as the moves I made were still the strongest positional moves against the available options to the opponent? Or am I overestimating this game

The game ratings aren't real Elo ratings, which are based solely on your wins, losses and draws.

In the game ratings, the moves aren't rated. They just take your pregame Elo rating and add or subtract points based on an evaluation of your play in the opening, middlegame and endgame. They will add or subtract a max of 250 points in each category.

The same moves will result in a 500 game rating for a 100 and a 900 game rating for a 500.
