Title says it all. After a little less than a month of consistent practice is an elo rating in the 700s good or bad?

Hard to say because it is mostly at higher ratings where it is more indicative of a pace slowing or not. A little less than one month being 700s seems fairly normal to me. Some learn faster and some learn slower. Nothing to worry about here grin.png

Just keep learning and keep practicing and you can get better with enough time put in. Chess opening principles is also useful for getting to around 1000 chess.com rating or so. Since 700 is less than 1000, then I'd give this a look if you haven't already happy.png

Statistically speaking 700 elo is bad compared to the chess.com player base, you are currently 35th percentile, but if you only started a month ago it is nothing to be ashamed of.

700 is a pretty common rating for beginners. :)

chess "average" depends on many factors like player rating pools. chess.com global average is around 1100 or so I think, so that is roughly "average" but this includes the grandmasters, regulars, as well as newer players. 700 for about a month of chess is pretty standard. Don't forget that grandmasters and such have usually played for 10+ years competitively, so it isn't really fair to compare yourself with them. grin.png

if you started at rock bottom, not knowing how the pieces move, then yeah it's pretty great. if you had experience playing before, meh. just looking at your chart though i'd say you've made a good amount of progress for one month

You shouldn't be depressed about elo. the playing fun is important

I agree with @KeSetoKaiba. To put it simply, it's hard to say because different people learn at different rates, but 700 in about a month is a good place to be. Keep pushing yourself, 1000 is a goal within reach! Good luck happy.png
