been playing chess a good while and was of the understanding that 25 moves with a lone king gave you the draw? or is it a bad habit i've picked up

@OP: Making moves while having only a bare King will not per se result in a draw.

Your question is reminiscent of the 50-move rule, which states that if both players make fifty moves without making a capture and without moving a Pawn, either player may claim a draw.
