Anand always was an extremely strong player, who performed excellent at the top level of chess for a very long time.

For me, he is part of a kind of golden generation that chess had, a generation that managed to stay at the top for quite a bit longer than could have been expected of them.

But finally, age is catching up with them and I hope more young strong players will arise be able to challenge Carlsen in the years to come to keep chess interesting.

Anand is probably a bit undervalued in public opinion because he had the misfortune to experience not one, but two true chess geniuses in his long stay at the top level, but most ppl agree that both Kasparov and Carlsen are exceptionally strong word champions.

That doesnt change the fact though that Anand was a strong champion in his own right, and from what I have seen from him he also was a great role model, being humble and polite. I wish everyone in chess had as good manners as Anand has.

Yes, I'm looking at you Naka...

Your comment is the best. I am also a Gary Kasporov fan. The fact is also known to me that Anand could never manage to defeat Kasporov. Anand is a humble player while Kasporov is a genius. I think my friend Hikaru Nakamura will be able to challenge Carlsen's legacy in very near future and will become number 1 and world champion.

It's always the third worlders that post racist stuff because I assume they are raised to be very nationalistic and paranoid about their country's pride. Nothing against Indians or other countries like Brazil but it always seems to the other countries that attack the west instead of the player from the west. It's primitive and stupid but I can't expect much more from such inept beings

Dear Skillful Last/Latest Worlder,

I know that you will never trouble yourself to find out who first posted these racist posts.

Perhaps you have forgotten the fact that Indian and Pakistani belong to the same race and Pakistan was the part of India before 1947. So we consider Pakistan as younger brother though it generally troubles us a lot (Four wars so far have been fought between two countries). So the comments between the two countries of lowest level are considered as normal (Abusing between Pakistani and Indian is a very common thing). Paki, Indi and many more names which I don't want to mention here as they are very derogatory are common between two countries. In cricket /hockey world cup supporters of both countries don't want their victory as much as they want the defeat of the other (funny thing). Any country's victory is welcome except that of India and Pakistan for Pakistani and Indian supporters respectively. India has sent its mission for Mars, so now Pakistan has decided that it will send a mission for Sun for the exploration of life on it!!! It is just the fight between two brothers who chid each other with funny names, though they never consider it racist. How can a comment of one brother against other can ever be racist?

Paki is known as a derogatory term. Its the equivalent of calling a black person the n word or calling a white person a honkey etc. It doesn't matter if you don't find it offensive, the majority of "pakis" will and for some reason you think that only people from the West can be racist.

Goodness, so much drama here. Goodness!

Sorry for you as you will never be able to understand the mentality of Indians and Pakistanis with respect to eachother. The same abuse from a brother and an outsider have different effects. The topics is closed now. I am also untracking the comments. Nice to have good conversation with you. Bye.

Ooh, that was the WRONG thing to say. Seriously, there's not so much more racist you can get than that.

No, I was talking about the resources available to spend time on chess.

resources are not the most important thing for success,as you can see here many diamond account holders with pathetic ratings.

I don't understand how someone can say that Anand would beat Fischer in a match. Fischer, along with Capablanca and Morphy would all demolish Anand in a match if around now. To people that don't believe me, put in a Morphy or Capablanca game into a Houdini or Stockfish engine. Its just incredible at that era, how accurate their play was. Morphy especially, its mind boggling how accurate Morphy's moves were before any kind of engine was even being thought of. I'm not bashing on Anand but I'm just saying that any of these guys would beat him in a match now without even looking at an opening book.

it was your incredible analysing skills or engines which led you to this conclusion.

To even think that Anand would stand a chance against Fischer in a match would be crazy. Let alone Morphy or Capablanca. I would estimate Morphy or Capablanca's rating today to be somewhere around 2900+

Unreal tosh with no analytical backing.

Anand is one of the weaker world champion. Stronger WCs are Kasparov, Carlsen, Fischer, Karpov. Anand was simply weaker than Kasparov even with age advantage. Anand is very strong in his own right but does not compare to the best of the best.

I appreciate your nationalism. I think Anand is the strongest chess player who has ever walked on the earth !!! If all works can be done by praising oneself then who will show misery in praising oneself?

konhidras

Anand a weak world champion?

Maybe a bit bloated but definetly not a weak one. Bested Kramnik, Topalov and Gelfand in recent matches. :)

You think Anand is "the strongest chess player who has ever walked on the earth", and then call someone else a nationalist for naming one(1) player from his country in a list of four(4) "stronger world champions".

You're not quite in touch with reality are you?

Do you think I was praisnig Anand in the comment? hahahaaaa....LOL. Perhaps you failed to understand my meaning. Please read the the comment again.

Surprised

(now I understand why I won all my games against you on time, you probably forgot your chess.com password)

In India, Chess was not getting any attention. Indians are crazy about Cricket, a game played for five days. Played in 10 countries only. (But Chess originated in India as you are well aware) To become a World Champ from India is akin to some country in African continent become Olympic Gold medalist in basket ball. Anand achieved that. Just imagine what he would have become had he been born in Russia!
