Endangered species

"We are an endangered species you and I. We lovers of Chess. We devotees of gambits, pins, and forks. 

"Go away", we are told "and take your discussions about tactics with you" 

There's hardly a place out here for us anymore, not amongst all the computer analysis, and positional players. Not in this growing age of safety, and restraint, where sound play trumps sacrifice. Where pawn advantages in end games are championed over bravery in the middle game. 

The evidence is everywhere. You and I are being pushed aside, and hunted down at every chess club discussion. 

And yet there is hope. There is a safe haven, a place where we are free to challenge conventions, push our 'A' pawn forward, and drive our queens into the opponents kings. 

No it's not a chessboard in Russia, or even a chess tournament in America. It's not even a OTB chess club actually. It's more than that. It's a communal celebration of Sacrificial Queens, Un-castled Kings, Doubled pawns, and Aggressive openings. It is the last bastion of Chess lust. And it's right here on Chess.com"
