That was what I was pointing out in the clarification: What you called "stopping", gbidari, turned out to be not the end of the transmission, but a break, after which the transmission continued to the end.
By the way, there is a very unusual thing about this World Championship match: As Topalov has announced unilaterally that he is not going to offer any draws, he is hoping to get a sort of psychological initiative in this match by being the one who presses on in positions that would have been agreed drawn in normal grandmaster games much earlier. So of course Anand does not offer any draws either, and takes to playing on quite a while in completely drawn positions himself.
In this way, at the end of many of the games in this match, there is the threat to viewers and commentators that the rest of the game may remain very uneventful and that the players will play on just because of this seeming "side battle" of "I won't offer the draw" that has been going on.
When they played on at move 39 in game 3 and soon after repeated the position five times, there was no chess content whatsoever to be learnt from an analysis of these moves, so I can understand every viewer watching this who turned away from the game, knowing that it was going to be a draw.
Having observed this in game 3, I can understand very well that it can be a better TV program if the commentators choose not to cover such a "chessless drawn" phase of a game. The option of stopping a transmission in such a case and coming back in case that the game gets interesting again is actually a very reasonable thing to do, given that the raw moves of the games and the results can be followed elsewhere on the internet very easily, and it is the comments on the interesting chess content that matter for the TV program.
thanks for your input everyone.
we try to cover as much of the matches as possible. right now our provider, livestream, is having some problems. plus, they have significantly raised the price for our broadcasting which has been really unfortunate. (note to livestream: raise prices + decrease quality = watch your customers leave; we're looking at other options).
i agree that we should make all reasonable efforts to cover as much as possible. i think david made as much reasonable effort as he could. i'm sorry that disappointed some of you. also, sorry if david's frank answer upset you. i do value your feedback.
