if we were playing face to face at the local chess club, I would not have the opportunity to flip the board as I do at chess .com.   So, is ethical to flip the board to get your opponents prospective during  game?

MitSud
No probably not.

your opponent can too so yes.but this will not help to improve your game in otb games I don't think.

you are allowed to get up and walk around in otb...walk around to your opponents side and have a look...sometimes it helps

+1 masterfowler.

3d has infinite advantage over 2d. So the OP question is moot, imo.

#4 is right, Although if you played in the middle of a row of tables, you could waste valuable time.

I'd like to see the super GMs, playing a match, complain "He's on my side of the room."

But we are not playing otb here, we are playing correspondence. When I played via post years ago I would set the board up for each move and I would always have a good look from both sides. You can learn a lot from a good opponent!
