Evans Gambit
This is an example from a tournament yesterday. I played this one really badly.
The game continued and I actually managed to draw it but still, I should have lost.
Another game...
And on this one I went and won but I remember after the game (this game is a couple weeks old) that stock fish said he was up several points during his attack. I remember he missed a tactic that would have won him the game.
In your first example Nh6 was an awful move. Did you not see he would simple exchange B for N and then play bxf7 ?
I suggest in an Italian game opening as black you refrain from Bc5.
Refute the Evans? Sorry, not possible.
I am advocating this line to my students (good, solid position and little theory to memorize).
You're welcome Mako- this thread will soon fill up with useful ideas on refuting the Evans- that dude you play at the club might be a one trick pony. Maybe try a different opening ie Caro,French,Sicillian etc- and catch him off guard.
Good luck and I'l look forward to the great advice thats on its way on your thread.
I know some Evans players and most of them hate the French
If I am playing black, I like the sicilian or caro kan but I play e5 as I am more confident with it. As white, I like my opponent to play e5
