While a word in this post was perhaps rather strong, the commenter recognized the same quality in his or her self. The final two words are good advice in general. Fast games often lead to blunders and one loss can lead to five in a row. Fun to play, who cares about the numbers...
Honestly I think you give this person too much credit. He was just trolling , looking for a reaction, trying to get my goat. His post starts as " you just suck" ....How can I take that seriously ?

It does often come up. But it is usually brought up the same way you did and, like this thread,it is usually full of people pointing out the mistakes in the OP's logic.
Funny thing, it seems it is usually brought up by people with low ratings who are the least likely to actually be able to correctly identify sandbagging.

here is another example of this same type of thing , copy and pasted :
Has this happened to anyone else ? I entered a recent tournament and was placed in a 1201-1400 group. One of the players whom I won't name entered the group with a rating of 1219 ( the lowest in the group ) .
Quite quickly into the match I realized she was much stronger than a 1219 and she proceeded to beat me hands down in both games. I found the overwhelming strength of her game to be a bit odd so I decided to check out her history.
I found her rating was already up to 1627, only a week after starting the tournament !
About a week later I noticed she had lost 16 consecutive games in 24hrs to get her rating back down to a 1232. This is obviously a direct manipulation of her own ratings in order to qualify for tournaments at a lower rating than she actually is !
Why would anyone do this ?
How can it be fun to "beat up" on a group of players who play at a much lower level than yourself ?
Obsessed with winning ? Obsessed with power ? Bored ? What is it ?
Anyway, she ruined the tournament for me............it's too bad, has anyone else had a similar situation ?
Yeah, ratings start at 1200, and when you're new you can gain 100s of points with a single win. That's easy.
Your opponent has >200 games and never >1200 rating. Also I'm sure you didn't "quickly realize she was much stronger" and "she beat me hands down"
It was more like "I'm kicking his ass, then only 2 tactics cost me 17 pts of material"
Sounds like a self-defeating strategy to me. To "fake" a low rating you have to do what: lose some games. And you do this why: so you can win some games? What kind of a yo-yo would do that on purpose?

that is probably the best worded and most intelligent comment on this post yet !! Its so true and I agree whole heartedly ! Like i said in my opening, it seems pointless. Unfortunately there are more than a few ' yo-yo's" out there .

yes similiar experiences..one player of my own team fm 1846 he dropped
to 1200plus in 10 days.another an opponent of me in another game fm 1843 to 1100 plus in 15 days..these are facts physically experienced by me...last week I had a player who was 1340 and I was 1650 when playing against him.surprised me in the first game (in a closed position without chances of penetration into the enemy lines selecting a convenient diagonal approach with Queen stealthily and creating havoc .this is 4th time it had happened to me and all 4 times I had lost ..only once I could realise it before it happened.but they were all above 1700rating and hence i thought it justified but fm a 1340 i didn't expect this.)In the 2nd game also he surprised me with his accurate play of defence and attack but i was more prepared this time around and won the second game but
with difficulty..all matches were team matches..
Yes maybe I was a bit hasty surmising this poor fellow was faking a low rating. However if you go to his homepage you will in fact see that I am not the first to accuse him of this very thing.
Yes. Making empty accusations seems to be a common pasttime of blitz players.
