Favorite Players Who Were Not World Champion
Shirov
Morozevich
Pillsbury
Carlsen
Topalov
Morozevich and Topalov were world champions already
EDIT: Morozevich was not world champion
There are only 15 world champions and only Chessplayers would need a definition of for it. If they are not on this Short list of 15 then they would qualify as not world champions.
Lakser, Steinitz, Tal Spassky. Euwe, Alekhine, Capablanca, Petrosian, Botvinnik, Kramnik, Anand, Kasparov, Karpov, Fischer, Spassky
I'm a chess player. There are 19 world champions.

If you're going to count the four titles by proxy after Kasparov had split over FIDE's corruption and Karpov had resigned in disgust over their foolish rules then go ahead, but the next world champion will be announced as the 16th undisputed world champion, not the "20th disputed champion", so your argument is largely irrelevant.
Eopethicus counted Spassky twice instead of Smyslov.

All the articles I read say "former world champion Topalov", etc. It doesn't matter if you personally don't think so and so was world champion or not, simply because the last few decades have had FIDE sponsor the WC crown, not you.
Who are your favorite players who were not WC?
Not necessarily who you think is the best but your favorites. Mine are Judit Polgar and Michael Adams, the brute force attacker and the positional crusher.
