Female chess players.

I think there are just less playing women than men. maybe it's a psychological thing, maybe the bias in past years, but there are less playing women. maybe with more women, they'll reach a higher score. but maybe, psychologically, women are less fit to playing chess. (I'm not saying women are inferior, only that they don't suit the game, like men aren't suited for carrying a baby)

I am very new to chess, but so far I have not had anyone say anything inappropriate to me on this site. I do intend to keep playing.

You have a very good rating for a beginner, so you earn respect for your playing skills.

For a man it makes no sense to think: "women are playing chess not as good as men do", especially if he is playing against a woman with a higher rating. He will probably loose more games against her than against an equally rated man. Don't underestimate women.

The statistics just say that the vast majority of professional chess players is male. I think female chess players have the same potential as male players have. It's sad there are not so many female chess legends like the Polgar sisters. There should be more.

leo, handedness is linked to sides of the brain accordingly left handed people are generally more creative than right handed people. of course it is not their handedness but it is an indication of brain activity. if you think otherwise that is fine but be polite.

lol... why do u expect me to reply unpolitely? as far as we r talkink objectively no hard feelings, first i am not left handed so i am not with or against what the research wants to say , the idea is there is difference in the functions of each side , each one is responsible of different tasks (one of them is that left side moves the right arm , and leg and vice versa) this side is responsible of logic and analysis abilities so if ur argument is right then those who r good in chess are right handed not left handedSmile , the imagination and creativity is the responsibility of the right side , which is also responsible of the motion of the left hand ..... now the question is "is chess needs more logic and analysis or creativity and imagination ?" this would lead us to different argument ground i believe.... waiting for ur reply amac....have nice time

I wonder how many guys in the middle of a game look at their arms and say to themselves, "Hmmmm nice bicep!"?

Globally are women lesser than men?...I'm not sure..maybe they play chess everywhere..only that they did not participating in events... so we cant see them. They, if receive encouragement and the confident from their dearest e.g husband, fellow student, neighbour, friends etc. will come out from the igloo.

The 2500 barrier does seem to be a grade only a small number of women can achieve.  I notice on the tournaments Chessbase covers there is always a positive attitude towards ladies playing chess which is good.  I would like to see more mixed playing where the female players could go head to head with more male players.

You only have to look at the performance of Hou Yifan to see there is strong talent coming through.

The Polgar sisters are helping change the male dominated world of chess.

Women are just as good as men in chess. It's been proved.

The evidence indicates exactly the opposite. This argument raged for some time quite recently on this site. Where were the contributers to this thread then? On Mars?
