I happened to find a few games in FEN format. I want to bring it into scid. I found a programmed called fentopgn and i could convert the fen files into a pgn. but when i imported the said pgn there is no moves!

how can i easily bring fen files into scid?

Yeah, a FEN is only a single position; It's not a game or series of moves.

backrankbrawler

1. Go the database you want to save the position.

2. Go to Game -> New Game

3. Go to Edit - > Setup Board Position

4. The prompt screen will have a spot where you can paste the FEN position.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Probably you got no moves in the file, because there were no moves in the file to begin with. I don't think you understand what a FEN is. A FEN is a single line of text that conveys a single chessboard position, not a series of moves.

Please supply a link to this "FEN file" so I can understand exactly what you have.

Don't try to attach the file, just give me a link to the file download. Or, if you can't do that, just tell me the name of the file so I can search for it. This isn't rocket science... Smile

Esc,thanks for the eagerness to help me.

sorry. a few days back, i was browsing here and there. most probable it was in chess.com that i met with a link in which an uplader has given fen games a very long one. then i tried to convert some of them into pgn using a small utility fen2pgn. recenlty my system went wrong  and i had to format it. doing so i lost all the bookmarks. Now i am unable to locate the file which i met with. i will defenitly search for it and will meet you soon.

Ouch, having to reformat your hard drive!

OK, I'll drop the FEN file issue, unless you bring it up again.
