Finally 1400 in blitz.

I finally reached 1400 in blitz. All my ratings are now 1400+. Smile

"So what? Is that a big thing?"

Yes it is. For me atleast grin.png.

I was playing blitz just horribly. My rating was 1330 some 6 months ago.

It went to 1197 some weeks ago!! This is the worst fall I ever experienced! tear.png

But I made my new blitz peak - 1400!

This is the best jump! grin.png

I am getting close to my goal:

Deadline: end of the year

GOAL:

1650 - classical

1600 - blitz

1750 - bullet

1600 - correspondence (not really a goal)

2250 - tactics.

Good luck to me.

GuessWhoIAm

Good luck! You're getting there. ;)

Making progress!  I've hardly played blitz for years...

ChessOfPlayer

You should have bigger targets lol.  You are young.

ChessOfPlayer

I wil set a target for me by the end of the week.

Blitz 1900 (easily achievable once I start playing blitz actively)

Tactics 2300 (easily achievable)

Standard 1800 (could be a hundred points higher but I am not going to but time and energy into it.  just to round things up)

bullet 1700 (just to round it up)

AIM-AceMove

I changed my mind months ago and now i think ratings actually does not mean anything. Online blitz bullet rapid daily etc.

And now with new registration that start you with 1800 or 1600 if you choose and just couple wins and you are above 2000 is ridiculus. There are so many sandbaggers it's unbelievable how much they mess up with the ratings. There are so many unfair players , so many legitimate low rated players lets say 1350 who can beat almost any 1700 or 1800 player, i have seen so many with highest win 2000+ but they are at 1400-1500 level forever...

Also one player lets say 1800 rated can easily lose to 1500 if he does not pay at best, rating is just a number...

If you are now 1400 does not mean you are better than 1200, maybe at some things but you might be worst at other aspect of the game and still lose and you can win vs 1600.

Don't get obssesed with the ratings, many, if not almost all players around that level go crazy if they lose 50 points or something... just chill out and focus on improvement or enjoy.

ChessOfPlayer

There is no harm in taking pride in your ratings like harish is.  It motivates him I am sure and he is not obsseses.  You are right that enjoyment and improvement are the main ones.  But increased ratings can be a sign of improvement as well as being totally inflated and not representitive in some users.

Congrats man! Keep it up.

SonOfThunder2

Awesome man! Your blitz is like my tactics! I'm dragging tactic rating through the mud right now :(

Good luck dude!

Harsh, my brother said that "you brag too much", and after seeing all of your forum topics, I'm starting to believe him. Nice job anyway.

Hey I just started peaking over 1500!!
MGleason

Your goals should depend on your priorities.  You're young, and if you work hard, you could reach IM level at least, and probably GM.  However, that would take a huge amount of work and dedication, and maybe you have other priorities in life.

If you just want to have fun with your chess and improve some, the goals you stated are perfectly fine.

Done. I too think its bit not a "goal" :D

#1 edited.

For all who think I brag too much, just don't care about my forums.

I don't think you're bragging - 1400 is good stuff but far from bragging rights.

I do think at 1400, the importance of nontactical considerations increases a lot. Under 1400, you can almost play random moves in the opening and still get tactical shots later based on opponent errors. At 1500+, most of the time you have to pressure the opponent enough to err, and the way to do that is the basic strategic considerations.

I think a lot of folks get stuck between 1200-1400 because they never pick up this basic strategic stuff and think that studying tactics to no end will continue making them better. It will, but tactics only has a lot more decreasing returns if your basic strategic knowledge is what's holding you back.

Nonsense.  Blitz is tactical all the way up over 2000+.  But on occasion positional moves are played.

hhnngg1

No, there's a real need for improved positional sense at 1400+.

At 1200-1400, I can make nearly random opening moves and just play for tactical shots and usually win.

At 1400+, my opponents start trying to trade off their bad pieces (bad colored bishop, Ns in open positions), and at 1500+, while tactical blunders still occur, most of the games have some jousting for a superior pawn structure or better minor piece.

Until you start learning those basic nuances of position, you'll be stuck at the 1400 or below range.

misterbasic
I'm 1750 and everything in my games is still decided by tactics. Idk what hhnngg1 is smoking.
DoctorStrange

Lol my "old" bullet goal is reached :D
