Reb, please make relevant arguments.  Your free speech argument is a time wasting tactic that puts words in my mouth, leaving me the task of defending a non-issue.

Huh ?  Willie I think you must have flunked reading comprehension. Your business in pharmaceuticals right? Are you sampling the product? Smile

People who come to a CHESS server and bash one of the greatest players the game has ever known, EVEN AFTER HIS DEATH, are full of hate and should seek help. Hate is like a cancer and devours its host very often. If you wanna speak about "horrible" people we can talk about Ariel Sharon if you like, at least he wasnt a great chess player. Surprised

And now suddenly free speech on a chess server is under your fire. Come on Reb!

You make me giggle.

And no your assumption is wrong, I studied pharmaceutics but my business is in distribution. You know what they say about assumption...

Okay, I'll keep it related to chess.  I'm glad that Bobby Fischer has, once again, done something that is sparking a public interest in this wonderful game.Surprised

What?  I think you're right.  The world is filled to the brim with people, like me, who like to wag the finger at anyone who dares to sponsor genocide.

Edit:  Perhaps I didn't quite get what you were trying to say, but if I did, now Reb isn't the only person in here who is disgusted with somebody.

If you cannot respect the dead then perhaps you should just stay out of Fischer threads completely?  Fischer had many fans and he brought many to the game, I am one of them and we mourn his loss inspite of the hateful things he said, if the haters cannot deal with that then they should seek help for their own hatred. To err is human , to forgive divine.

I'll post in a topic I find interesting, thank you.  I am much more intrigued by what people think of Fischer's death than I am by any three word story.  I simply shared my view on the matter.  My original post was incredibly short.  Everything since was in answer to other members.  If those fans of Fischer(I am a fan of his chess, by the way... there were few, if any, better) don't want to hear more from me, they simply need not respond to my post.  I do find it odd that this reply comes only after I've soundly answered your arguments about my thoughts.  I thought we were having a discussion.

Bobby Fischer is the greatest chess player of all times. He is idol to many young players,talented,beginners,masters...Many people started play chess because of him.Because of him chess became much more popular.Because of him Masters can live from chess, because of him prizes are much bigger. He played his match with Spassky in Serbia but  USA didn't allowed to play that match because of sanctions to Serbia.Because Serbia did genocide in Croatia and in Bosnia and he must run away and never come back again to USA.Many players said that he really didn't know what was happening in that time in Croatia and in Bosnia.American's goverment and all there politicians are very bad and dangerous for world.USA could stop wars on Balkan in 2 days but USA didn't do nothing. Why? Because USA wanted destroyed Yugoslavia.USA always wanted be No.1 .USA didn't appreciate Bobby and everything what he did for USA.I agree with Bobby when he said that USA deserved attack on 09/11.It is sad and horrible because of many killed victims but destroyed twins it was OK.Unfortunly USA didn't understand lecture. What USA done in Vietnam? Horrible, monstrums things and killing.Where are that criminals? Never exist in USA judicial tribunal for that criminals and crims what they done. When that monstrums came back to USA they became heros...it is so sad. That people afther came back to home were walking and still walking free in USA.Remember USA's isolation politica from past...USA even don't have own history.USA was 200 years magnet of Europe.USA should come down on earth.Of course that we are living in bad times when powerest country killing people for oil and people in Africa are dying. For USA and for world would be great if Hillary become new president.

The first amendment to the United States Constitution does NOT apply to Americans living in foreign countries when they speak while living there.  Is there some part of "FOREIGN" that you believe includes the US Constitution?  Normal people believe that one only enjoys first amendment rights when living [and speaking] in the USA.

on this, we differ it would appear.

Actually Ret, there is no free speech in the USA anymore either. The John Rocker case some years back is proof positive and there are other examples as well....but once free speech goes......that way lies fascism.

Ret,

Thanks for the acknowledgment, but my post were not made in light of the American first amendment alone.

Dalmatinac, I actually agree with you on some points about America.  I'm not going to discuss politics with you here because this forum topic is already borderline.  I agree that Bobby Fischer did great things for chess.  I agree that he has a right to believe as he chooses and to express such beliefs.

Reb, no legal recourse was ever taken against John Rocker, to my knowledge.  The fines that were levied against him, his suspension, and his mandate to undergo sensitivity training were imposed by the MLB organization.  They are a business.  They need their players to act as role models for the American youth.  John Rocker was representing the MLB, and, in that capacity, failed to maintain a professional public image.  The MLB was absolutely in the right to punish him.  I would formally reprimand any of my employees for doing the same.  To bring this up as an argument on free speech is insane.  I don't see how you can defend his outburst and yet get so angry with me.

"Liberalism has become fascism in disguise"

Don't worry, that's not politics.  It's comedy.

Now now everyone calm down.

Lets not hate on the Nazi's many of there ideas have been twisted into weird cults of today (skinheads etc) and the truth is alot of what people are being taught today isn't actually true.

I believe that we shouldn't focus on the negatives of Bobby Fischer but the positives ( I mean who doesn't like to have a rant about things they dislike). end post.

"Agreed, Reb.  Conservatives enjoy lively debate on most topics, and can consider logical arguments.    Only the liberals seek to stifle debate by propaganda."

Please show me a single instance where I've used anything but logic.  This is an argument I often hear from people who have no weak points in logic to attack.  I've answered all reasonable questions and have had few of my points met.

Edit:  I doubt I'll see a rational reply to this challenge.

Pointing out the case with John Rocker , to show that free speech no longer exists even in the USA, is NOT defending his outbursts. How do you make such a leap in logic? There are people actually jailed in some countries for what they say. People who do this and/or support this are fascists imo. I may not agree with what you say but I will defend your right to say it.

Okay, I misspoke.  I didn't mean you were defending the content of his outburst, just that he and I both made comments about what we believe and perceive.  You're telling me I shouldn't post here because of mine, but seem upset that MLB should tell him not to say something offensive.  That was the parallel I was drawing.  I wouldn't dream of implying that the content of our two statements was anything alike.

Edit:  It just occured to me how funny it is that you only argue that part of my post.  You don't even bother to address the fact that it's not a free speech issue whatsoever, but continue to call it so in your reply.
