Fischer's his last words video and ....
And now suddenly free speech on a chess server is under your fire. Come on Reb!
You make me giggle.
And no your assumption is wrong, I studied pharmaceutics but my business is in distribution. You know what they say about assumption...
What? I think you're right. The world is filled to the brim with people, like me, who like to wag the finger at anyone who dares to sponsor genocide.
Edit: Perhaps I didn't quite get what you were trying to say, but if I did, now Reb isn't the only person in here who is disgusted with somebody.
Reb,
King William has it right in his posting. .... " People are actually accountable for what they say."
The first amendment to the United States Constitution does NOT apply to Americans living in foreign countries when they speak while living there. Is there some part of "FOREIGN" that you believe includes the US Constitution? Normal people believe that one only enjoys first amendment rights when living [and speaking] in the USA.
on this, we differ it would appear.
Ret
Actually Ret, there is no free speech in the USA anymore either. The John Rocker case some years back is proof positive and there are other examples as well....but once free speech goes......that way lies fascism.

Ret,
Thanks for the acknowledgment, but my post were not made in light of the American first amendment alone.
Dalmatinac, I actually agree with you on some points about America. I'm not going to discuss politics with you here because this forum topic is already borderline. I agree that Bobby Fischer did great things for chess. I agree that he has a right to believe as he chooses and to express such beliefs.
Reb, no legal recourse was ever taken against John Rocker, to my knowledge. The fines that were levied against him, his suspension, and his mandate to undergo sensitivity training were imposed by the MLB organization. They are a business. They need their players to act as role models for the American youth. John Rocker was representing the MLB, and, in that capacity, failed to maintain a professional public image. The MLB was absolutely in the right to punish him. I would formally reprimand any of my employees for doing the same. To bring this up as an argument on free speech is insane. I don't see how you can defend his outburst and yet get so angry with me.
Now now everyone calm down.
Lets not hate on the Nazi's many of there ideas have been twisted into weird cults of today (skinheads etc) and the truth is alot of what people are being taught today isn't actually true.
I believe that we shouldn't focus on the negatives of Bobby Fischer but the positives ( I mean who doesn't like to have a rant about things they dislike). end post.
"Agreed, Reb. Conservatives enjoy lively debate on most topics, and can consider logical arguments. Only the liberals seek to stifle debate by propaganda."
Please show me a single instance where I've used anything but logic. This is an argument I often hear from people who have no weak points in logic to attack. I've answered all reasonable questions and have had few of my points met.
Edit: I doubt I'll see a rational reply to this challenge.

Pointing out the case with John Rocker , to show that free speech no longer exists even in the USA, is NOT defending his outbursts. How do you make such a leap in logic? There are people actually jailed in some countries for what they say. People who do this and/or support this are fascists imo. I may not agree with what you say but I will defend your right to say it.

Okay, I misspoke. I didn't mean you were defending the content of his outburst, just that he and I both made comments about what we believe and perceive. You're telling me I shouldn't post here because of mine, but seem upset that MLB should tell him not to say something offensive. That was the parallel I was drawing. I wouldn't dream of implying that the content of our two statements was anything alike.
Edit: It just occured to me how funny it is that you only argue that part of my post. You don't even bother to address the fact that it's not a free speech issue whatsoever, but continue to call it so in your reply.

Reb, please make relevant arguments. Your free speech argument is a time wasting tactic that puts words in my mouth, leaving me the task of defending a non-issue.
