Does this mean reaching a 23 hundred is roughly enough not to be so scared of GM'S?

What do you think about this game

🤔

Have you ever lost a 5 minute blitz game to someone rated 200 points below you?

Preggo_Basashi

Me neither.

It's obviously a fake video.

Don't talk non sense. If I loose the game to someone 200 points lower then me, it's very different from GM loosing to an FM.

ridiculous discuss.

a GM can lose to some 1800 players in a bad day, while the 1800 is on a good day.

Already seen it in long time control.

U can be very strong and play like a noob, and your opponent can find the good moves luckily or because in a good shape.

That's chess : if there was only rating, then we should just don't play the game and give a result according the rating and the stats.

Here is the game, i added some annotiations :

Why are there people with really high rating 2200+ but without a title? Does it raise the question of "legal play" to you? Or, it just simplymeans they do not qualify for a title because of some reasons?

poucin

the "first" title approved by Fide is FM : u have to get 2300 fide rating to get it, and u have to pay to obtain it (so it is not given automatically, opposite to IM or GM).

Below, there is no official title for Fide (except woman titles, the same but with lower conditions).

Ok u have CM but this is often given to enable norm possibilities in some tournaments or something like that.

About american titles : they are just american and mean nothing.

However, here the man who conducted white's pieces plays at very good level, about 2200 I would say, which is not enough to get a MF title.

This guy is strange (with white) : no fide rating, just a US one...

Anyway, don't forget, it was just a blitz game...

I got it! So nowsaday in chess, anything below 2300 is not considered master level. And, the bar would raise higher in the future, I guess.

Well, it depends who you ask. In Europe everything is international tournaments (FIDE) so they're not going to care about US titles (or other national titles) of course.

Here in the US it's hard to find FIDE rated games, and practically impossible to get norms for international titles. You have to have people from multiple countries participating, which makes sense for an international title, but in the US driving 200 miles doesn't take you across 5 countries so it's just not practical tongue.png

So in the US it's normal to call someone 2200 a master while having a conversation, because they have a national master title -- but obviously FIDE titles are more prestigious.

As for FM, even higher rated players will make fun of the FM title, calling it "fake master" heh, so you're never good enough that people wont look down on you wink.png I recall Carlsen a few years ago talking about So when So had just started joining super tournaments, and saying So wasn't very good yet... So was in the top 10.

LOL, I wish I would have that super skill level to talk trash about people. LOL JK

Yeah lol happy.png

He was like "So is good at tactics, and he has some good opening preparation, but that's all. He'll have to learn other things if he wants to compete with us"

Like WTH man, so just tactics and opening is enough to be 2700? I somehow doubt that.

But yeah, I guess that's what it looks like when peering down from Mount Olympus tongue.png
