Forcing a Draw

Just wondering... when is it ok to force a draw? I've been playing a couple of games in which the position is really drawish and then i find a way to force a draw by making them move their king back and forth because they have no other move. In one of the games it is an obviously lost position for me, and in the other one it isn't, but my opponent would gain a significant positional advantage if I didn't force the draw so I suppose I'm just not sure whether I should or not.
