It's about time to fix this, staff. Don't bother policing it for fun, we don't want to see any advertisements for Lucknow girls, fake passports or black magic. The offenders always come back with their bots.

Just make one simple rule: People cannot post on the forums until their account reaches 30 days old.

praisecats

they're looking for husbands please do not fix this :D

Mika_Rao

So they make 1 new account per day.  As you can see, after 30 days, this restriction has no effect.

ElKitch

Max nr of topics per time. I mean.. how many topics would a normale user post in a set time? 3 topics/hour? Thats alot already..

I agree it must be fixed, but I dont like your solution. New memebrs often have legitimate questions.

I still think a 1 hour time limit between creating topics.

So then they make 10 new accounts a day, and post 1 topic per account...

On a nicer note - "hey sisu, long time no see :) "

With regard the spammers, yes they are a pain in the proverbial and even though we have made it harder for them so spam they still find ways to come back and annoy those who really don't like seeing this in their forums.

I'll update Erik when he comes online today and see if we can look at stronger ways of controlling this.

I think if you don't let a member post on the board until they play X number of games(say 10 or so) it might limit the spam. These guys work on percentages. Not likely to play through a bunch of chess games when they could hit easier prey. Just a thought.... Good luck. I ran a sports board last year and the spam bastards are always there....

MSC157

I disagree with:

- first 30 days,

- X games to be played.

I agree with:

- 1 topic per hour,

- no forum post in the first hour.

EDIT: I'd explain my choices but it takes too much time on the phone. :)

Fair enough. Some sensible limit to stop them, whatever that may be. At the moment people can just sign up and start spamming.

Why not 1 topic maximum per member per let's say 72 hours or something like that. Why would anyone want to start several topics in a short time span. Even a week sounds reasonable to me.

A second advantage of this proposal is that people will start taking the topics they start more serious...

netzach

A week sounds reasonable to me also. Good idea.

Agreed. People need to think more before typing (opening their mouth) Laughing.

sisu

Here we go again Frown. Instead of fighting the spammers its much easier to divert them.

sisu

Again, today.

sisu

Still happening today. I don't understand why forum moderators like to "battle" with spammers...cmon guys, its such an easy fix.

I agree. I'm spending far less time on this site now, purely because of this crap.

The site owner has still not responded.
