Go to this week in chess and start pulling down the data, or order the CD. That will make an excellent start.

Can anybody help me with finding a link to a free downloadable and reliable database I could use with Scid vs PC? (I've found several links but none of them is working)
You didn't say which databases would be acceptable or how recent the databases need to be. I think I still have active links to the ICOfY database from early 2012, and the GorgoBase database from Nov 21, 2015. Are either of those acceptable?
Thanks. I don't need an enormous database but would like something covering the 20th & 21th century as well as classical games from earlier periods.

I'm guessing that's a polite "no"? Well, good luck in your hunt!
We used to link to Millbase, but it is discontinued i think.
In Help->Contents->Databases and General Use we now link to Kingbase
