Not long ago, I played a game at my local club. I fell prey to the Touch-Move rule, and made a really silly mistake. I was furious with myself for having allowed my opponent to attack my uncastled king, and almost resigned on the spot – the position was eerily similar to the Scholar's Mate, and I thought I had gotten mated ten moves into the game!

However, right before I resigned, I noticed that my king had a flight square on d7. I was down a pawn, but I'm extremely stubborn on the chess board and decided to fight back against my relatively weak opponent (I'm very weak myself in OTB games, but this guy was slightly below my level).

Amazingly, my opponent made THE VERY SAME MISTAKE of allowing an attack against his uncastled king, and eleven moves later, I won the game by resignation. I even had a forced mate in that position that I wasn't aware of – I had just won his queen and was planning to take his rook in two more moves.

Well, this is not really funny to me, but it may be funny to you.

In 2013 I played one of my worst OTB blunders ever. I took a guarded pawn with my bishop. See here (move 37 of the first game).

Last Saturday I was paired against same opponent, and I wanted revenge. hehe. So I played a very good game. As Black I got a slight edge out of the opening. For many move I kept pressing for an advantage (and declined a few draw offers along the way). Eventaully we traded down to a queen ending where I was two pawns up. At this point all the other games from the tournament had ended. Some of my friends had been watching the game, but now they left, probably thinking the outcome of the game was secure.

But then something strange happened: I was calculating a line and inexplicably touched a pawn I didn't want to move. This resulted in me losing my passed pawn (now I had a 4-3 pawn majority on the kingside; a draw). I knew the position was drawn now. I also knew that I was getting frustrated. I also knew that my time advantage was almost gone and we were nearing time trouble. However, I declined his draw offer and played on. And then, at about move 70, I allowed him to skewer my king and queen! Oops. All my hard work for 69 moves was gone. I was forced to resign the game (giving him second place instead of me, losing instead of gaining rating points, feeling embarressed, etc. Embarassed

It was dumb, but oh well. Actually I think it's pretty funny. Laughing

Next time I'm going to play better Cool
