During this game (vs. user [removed]), my opponent threatened to attack me in the chat and chess.com basically has done nothing about it despite my reports.
On move 11 he just hangs a knight and I take, he then chatted something along the lines of "We don't play that French move bs where I come from?"
I responded (again, paraphrasing because I don't have the chat logs), "You mean the move where you hang your knight?"
He proceeds to just play a bad game with poor strategy, i.e. trading a queen and rook when down material. But towards the end of the game, when I am +7, he says "Just so you know, I have your IP address". By this point, I'm just not responding because now it is becoming the level of actual threatening and it's not worth making some witty remark.
Later he blunders a rook and forfeits, but before quitting he sends a message saying "Wait until you see what happens to you" or something along those lines.
I reported the game and gave a detailed description afterward, and it's days later with no discipline towards the user whatsoever, he's still playing every day, no bans, no suspensions, nothing. Obviously, nothing came to fruit from the threat, but it's ridiculous that people can have to worry about their or their family's safety in real life because they just beat someone in Chess and that there's no discipline for such behavior after reporting.
It can take some time for staff to follow up on reports but depending on how extreme it actually was, it could go from nothing being done, a warning, a mute, to account closure for extreme issues.
In case something does happen to you, ask a family member to update this thread. I'll send some flowers.
