I was just a little girl, about 10 or so, the last time I played an OTB game, so I’m probably the last person to advise here. I did however have a similar experience. I’m a hundred percent kinaesthetic which means I best learn and improve through tactile, hands-on, approach. I need to touch and feel things and get involved in the action for it to sink into my memory. Playing OTB is all that, the feel of the board and the pieces, the act of picking up a piece and moving it across the board, the pressure of having your opponent sitting across from you where you can see their reaction and read their body language. It’s a dynamic multi-sensory environment, and you just don’t get any of that when you play online. So when I started playing chess on the app, I really struggled. It took awhile to switch to the new way of playing but I was kinda forced to do that because of the whole pandemic thing that drastically limited my options. It’s a totally different experience that I’ve learned to enjoy, although I’m not sure I’ll ever like it as much as OTB. But I do love chess and am prepared to play whatever way is available to me. What I’m trying to say is that I don’t think there is a cure for that. If you like chess as much as most people here do, you’ll eventually adapt and improve. You just have to be patient.

Stop trying and just play funny stuff that makes you laugh... it won’t help your rating, though.
