Kind of gives another meaning to "I'm gonna wipe the floor with you!"
The Does and Don'ts of Chess
in casual games DON'T pick up a piece and move it all over the board to see how you like it then ask what square it was originally on because you forgot and want to move something else.
Do's
1) Develop your pieces quickly
2) castle early
3) try to figure out what your opponent is doing EVERY MOVE
4) Try to control the center
5) Don't developed the queen too early
6) try to play a variety of players
7) normally develop knights towards the center
8) if you want to improve buy some chess books or go to
your local library for some
Don'ts
1) Don't start a g/60 when you have to go to work in 30 minutes
2) Don't forget to eat and sleep because you want to play chess
3) Don't start yet another game of your girlfriend/wife is begging you
to go do something with her
4) Don't sweat your losses, but try to learn from them
5) If your house is on fire don't finish the game before running
outside
6) try to play a variety of players
I've been told this but dont know exactly why I should follow it if I play a 2000 player all day wouldnt that be better than playing diffrent players all between 1500-1799 give or take.

Take the variety of players. Definitely.

Which is it, your wife or your girlfriend? Either one may have different standards and you may have reasons for putting one or the other off.
The reasons I believe it is best for play a variety of players if you want to improve are many these:
1) You will encounter a variety of openings and styles which you won't find if you just play the same few players over and over
2) Everyone likes to win so if you play too strong players all the times you will lose out of the enjoyment of winning except on rare occasions, it is likely you might just give up chess.
3) Playing too weak of an opponent all the time is rather boring and you will rarely be punished for your bad moves, and will find improvement is nearly impossible.
4) It will increase your circle of friends whom you can play against and make it more likely there won't be many days when you can't find a face to face game if you are in the mood for one.
5) fill in the blank for anything i missed.............
Don't: post real questions on chess.com
Do: find another site for real chess dicussion
IMO they gotta be more specific. To answer it seriously you have to either give beginner advice which gets really old repeating, or you have to spend a lot of energy coming up with specific scenarios yourself.
Also the title contains a homophone, so it's likely pretty hard to resist :p

I don't think homophoneophobes should keep their opinions to themselves!
Then we'll really be busy with cleansing!
